Tonight the Canes get their first win in a long time. Here is why I think so. Everyone knows their defense is hit or miss, we also know Cam Ward is a top tier goalie, he just has lost all confidence in his teams ability to control the puck in their own zone. Therefore he is trying to do to much, trying to be the goalie and the defense all in one. However, I really liked what i saw out of the Canes offense last night in the second and 3rd periods- In particularly their fore-checking. Lets not forget that the Canes wingers and Centers are big, strong, hard hitting men. They are a solid team who has found themselves in a bad rut due to a couple things 1.) lack of Defensive positioning and defense men not trusting one another to be covering their responsibilities, which in turn puts them out of defensive position=easy goals.2.) The Centers and Wingers are trying to make up for the lack of Defense, which is taking them out of their game and their correct positioning=Lack of offensive opportunities. This is a veteran team, they will eventually start putting it together. Last night i seen glimpses of the offense coming together and playing Cane style hockey, dump-fore-check-set up- crash net. I think tonight is a perfect situation for the canes, they are playing a team who is struggling defensively almost as badly as them as of late, and who in my opinion are soft. The offense is going to start tonight's game like they finished last nights and shake the Oilers early. The tough fore-checking will help keep possession in the Edmonton zone. Everything will will spur from that, the Defense and Cam will play well tonight.
GL everyone 3-1 CANES
