I always thought they should've thrown AJ in game 3 and just chalked it up as an automatic loss, that way andy could have gotten the start in game 2 or game 4 and kept the series at 2-2

AJ holds his own, the bullpen falters tonight. Confidence level is sky high for the Rangers. That should carry them to victory again tonight. A-Rod, Jeter, Posada, Teixeira, this fab four went into hibernation.

Just like last night I gotta go with Texas again here. But more of a smaller play. I know all of you will think I am nuts ,but I would rather pitch Dustin Mosley over A.J in this spot. (If C.C.can not pitch here.) Go ahead and say I'm soft in the head ,but I have very little faith in A.J. right now . And we all know if he begins to have difficulty,it will get Ugly quickly. He can not maintain his composure.I will take a flyer on the live dog. Will Texas cool off tonight? I will pay to find out. Good Luck To All . May The Fix Be With You. Runnin Mitch

I'd have a hard time betting against New York tonight.
I went to all 3 of the games they played at Dodger Stadium and the problem is that they just don't give up.
Ever.
And when they start coming back against you, you get rattled.
And lost amidst all the AJ Burnett chatter is the fact that Tommy Hunter who was solid but not spectacular this season, was 0-1 with a 6.75 against New York. And this happens to be his first career start at Yankee Stadium.
I know the Ranger production has been ridiculous in this series, and obviously, AJ Burnett is real scary start. But . . . if he can just pitch well enough to keep them in the game, that experienced Yankee line-up is more than capable of rallying around him and out- hitting Texas in this particular game.
I still think Texas wins this series, especially if it goes to game 7, but I'll personally be staying away from them tonight, because "backs against the wall" couldn't possibly be more relevant in this situation, and you're dealing with the New York Yankees.

The Yankees finally got the starting pitching they needed, but their bats fell silent against Cliff Lee once again in an 8-0 game two loss. Andy Pettitte gave up two runs in a shaky first inning, raising fears that he was a bit rusty from a ten day layoff. However, he was dominant thereafter, allowing five hits and zero walks in seven strong innings. This was only his first defeat in his last nine postseason outings and just the second home loss for New York in the last two years in the playoffs, both at the hands of Cliff Lee. The Yankees offense started slow in the first two games of this series, but did show some life in the latter stages of each. They did not challenge in this one with harmless singles from Jorge Posada and Brett Gardner to show for their efforts. In fact, Gardner was the only player in pinstripes to reach third base as they managed just three base runners for the game. Faced with sending CC Sabathia to the hill on just three days rest or turning to a struggling AJ Burnett, Joe Girardi has opted for the latter. Burnett hasn’t pitched since the October 2nd and was initially left out of the team’s rotation. But the Yanks decision to go with a four man rotation puts him on the big stage after finishing the season at just 1-7 with a 6.61 ERA in his final 12 starts.
Game three couldn’t have worked out any better from a Texas standpoint, with the series knotted at one and arguably the best pitcher in the game right now going for them. All the talk about Cliff Lee being human and how New York would find a way to get to him never surfaced as he turned in a dominant performance from start to finish. He retired the first nine batters in order, before finishing the night allowing just two hits and a walk with a career postseason high 13 strikeouts over eight innings. He might have been called on to finish the game, but after Texas tacked on six runs against the NYY relief corps in the ninth there was no need to ask more of their ace. The Rangers offense through the first eight innings consisted of Josh Hamilton’s two run blast in the very first frame which turned out to be more than enough. Their six run ninth just served to remove what little mystery was left in this one, leaving both teams to plan for game four. After dropping ten straight games to New York, Texas has now won consecutive contests and send Tommy Hunter out looking for a third and an improbable 3-1 series lead. He has never pitched in New York but has faced the Yanks twice at home, going 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA
Texas certainly hasn’t been effected by the Yankees mystique, as they are really being outplayed in this series and are fortunate not to be down 3-0. Outside of Andy Pettitte, their pitching has pitching has hurt them and now they find themselves leaning on AJ Burnett which has to be uncomfortable given his struggles throughout the year. I actually think New York has a shot here, but it will be a white knuckler with Burnett toeing the rubber, so hopefully the bats come to life which seems likely. After all, this is the Yankees.

Would like to see Texas still take the series but tonight gotta look at NY evening it up. The Over could probably be the safest play but I can't worry about both sides -- YANKEES -150

Agree with butgers, pettite should be starting this one! Bad move by Joe!! This is a tough one to figure. On 1 hand the series should be 3-0 if not for the late 5 run inning for the yankeers, this could be a sweep tonight. Texas is playing more aggressive ball right now, running like crazy, their line up is not over matched in any way, and the pitching (except for rivera) i think favors the rangers. But on the other hand, do the yankeers lose 3 in a row??!! I dont remember seeing that happen all year! Although im sure it happened...
Still undecided

NYY will not drop 3 in a row period. They are too good of a ball club.
agreed.
all this talk of how terrible burnett is is only playing into the books hands, but there's a reason that he's a -150 favorite over a guy who was a legitimate 2 in most rotations. Money maker mentioned his bad games against the yankees in texas, but there are two things about AJ here that people aren't saying anything about...
1- burnett went 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in 3 starts against the rangers this year
2- burnett was touched on the road in the playoffs last year, but was an impressive 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA at yankee's stadium last year
also look to see who's catching him... he hates pitching to posada (7.28 ERA) but pitches a lot better to cervalli (4.66 ERA). That's just this year, the splits were just as different last year if not better without posada. If cervalli is catching, i'll be big on the yankees, otherwise, i'll make it a regular size wager.

The brunet start makes sense, you really have to evaluate this from the perspective of a manager. Think long term and bank on Brunet streaky ability, most importantly cover your own azz
Suicide to start the main three: you cant play your main three on short rest, in this series against the Rangers, that would be suicide, Texas has a potent lineup thats been red hot the past 4 months.
I would let them rest and pray that they step it up their next time on the mound.
starting Dustin Moseley or anyone else, would be unwise for the young yankes manager even if he knows someone else can silence the rangers. you have to cover every decision thats made,
brunet - proven in the post series at yanke stadium - coming off two weeks rest - has had success against this year and throughout his career against texas
bottom line starting anyone else is a bad decision, i would not be surprised if brunet only gives up 2 through 6 or 7. neither would i be surprised if he blows up in the first.
sometimes you have to forget the stats and see this game for what it is, AJ is had a long rest and is hungry, he needs a win, he can win, and will if he wants to keep playing for the yanks.
But for the value on texas to win, how could i not take it.
