I cannot wait for you to cite all the factual examples that support your assertion that this is a good idea.
the school where the shooting took place was a "gun free zone". That means you know have some free time to do some damage until the cops show up. Again, i will take the 60 yr old deputy riding out his time until retirement over nothing.
The mother was an irresponsible gun owner who did not keep her guns locked up from a child with special needs. She alone is to blame. All it would have taken is a combination gun safe and we would never be discussing this tragic situation.
I wouldn't say 'alone' but she certainly deserves blame.
As for 'gun-free' or 'drug-free' zones, this was never really construed as a deterrant for school shootings. It is a deterrant for people bringing drugs or guns into/near those zones, even accidently (that is how the 'as the crow flies' means of determining distance was created in law).
Anyone who thinks that saying 'gun-free zone' is the solution suffers from the same delusion as those who think that arming some 2nd grade teacher will solve all problems.

And it is beyond laughable to compare a few courses to someone now in the military of law enforcement.
Such a person's entire career and thus, mentality, is based on law enforcement or military action.
A teacher's is teaching some child how to properly spell. To suggest that a few courses later, they will become Rambo is, sadly, the conservative solution you refer to above.

I am waiting for you to list all of the examples of teachers stopping school shootings so that I can go through them all and distinguish them from the case in point.
I'm sure all of the examples, without namecalling, are coming forthwith.

This a serious question. Why do some always have to define a person/group one way of the other like it's only either black or white? It's probably the biggest reason why we are where we are.
For instance, I believe in gun ownership and I don't have a problem with a armed officer in school. At the same time, I am also for stiff punishment for those who don't store their guns properly and I don't think arming a teacher is a good idea. Why do those things have to be mutually exclusive?

Take a town like this. Quiet, no real violence, etc. The tea party people are looking to slash spending. Who goes first...school security or a patrolman?
