Ariel Sharon gave his life to Israel--to bring it into being, to sustain and preserve it, and at the end of his long service, to create a new political party committed to both a just peace and lasting security. It was an honor to work with him, argue with him, and watch him always trying to find the right path for his beloved country. Hillary and I join his fellow citizens in honoring his memory and offering our condolences to his sons and his family.

As with most of the powerful leaders in the Middle East, Sharon was a polarizing and complicated individual. Interestingly, many people believe that he very possibly could have brought peace as his positions later in life were that Israel needed to have clear boundaries and he was on record stating that even Israeli settlements needed to go if they were beyond the set boundaries.

This man was great at spreading false intelligence/propaganda to the USA and world in order to get them to do Israel's bidding. He was excellent at disseminating the lies that led to the war in Iraq, which we now see will fall to the previously non-existent presence of Al Queda.
We have lost a truly great manipulator of US policy strictly for the purpose of helping Israel at the expense of the US. Not to mention, the cruelties and injustices he spearheaded against the Palestinian people.

As far as the I/P issue goes Israel fires in self-defense. The I/P conflict started in 1948 and persists to this day due to Arab refusal to accept a Jewish State. Had the Arabs achieved their stated goal of pushing Israel into the Sea would you be here wringing your hands about, "cruelties and injustices against the Israeli people?" If the military strengths of the two sides were reversed for even 15 minutes at any times during the past 66 years do you think there would be an Israel? To those not morally blind, considering the weaponry Israel has and the repeated attempts to destroy it, Israel has been pretty restrained.

Yes, Israel recommended that the US attack Iran instead of Iraq because they believed they were the greater threat.....TO ISRAEL. They still fully supported Iraq being a threat. How noble of Israel to peddle the wars that are in their best interest, rather than avoid conflict, death, and violence. Who is the threat again?
Once it was determined that the US would not attack Iran, Israel jumped into the Iraqi-war propaganda campaign with full-force. They were a frontrunner in championing the WMD lies. Poster-child Ariel Sharon can be viewed peddling these lies on the world-stage to our congress and other organizations.
The truth makes me feel good. There is video footage of Sharon in action, lying to our congress about Israeli intelligence pertaining to WMDs and Al Queda in Iraq.

You don't have the truth as you're living in an alternate universe where Israel is a threat, and tells the US what to do. The fact of the matter is that having a strong ally in Israel in the ME region greatly aids the US both militarily and financially. And Israel doesn't tell us what to do; we tell them. Actually, we tie their hands when they fight back vs those seeking to annihilate them. Do you read the news? At all? Not that it would matter, as your mind runs not on facts, but the facts you imagine in your head. When Israel flies planes into American skyscrapers then you can come back and tell us it's "the real threat."
