recent poll numbers with independent voters aren't great,
just 31% favorable rating vs. a 57% unfavorable rating.
[ie, negative 26 pts among independents] surprised

 

But the silver lining in this dark cloud comes from
independents’ take on the alternative:
Trump’s favorability rating is even worse than Biden's -
only 26% favorable with a huge 61% unfavorable!
[ie, negative 35 pts!] an_2drinks


Likewise, when independent registered voters were asked
by CNN whether “any Democrat is better than Trump,”
47% answered yes.
On the flipside, only 27% said “Trump is better than any Dem.”

No wonder that one of Biden’s favorite aphorisms is
     “don’t compare me to the almighty;
        compare me to the alternative.”

As in most elections the fight to gain more favor among independents compared to the other side is what it usually boils down to.  Both predicted presidential nominees seem to be unpopular.   But among Independents, Trump is even more unpopular than Biden.

MAGA republicans ignore problems and oppose solutions.  In contrast, democrats see problems and offer solutions.  Even republican McConnell supports Biden's $100 billion aid proposal for Israel and Ukraine.  Meanwhile GOP house continues decline into gridlock and away from governing.
