Interesting what states and localities can come up with in terms of locally acceptable solutions when left to their own devices:
the community making up the 600-student Fairview School, where a sign at the main entrance reads “Drug Free Gun Free School Zone,” represents a culture in which the idea of guns in classrooms is not necessarily intimidating. Hunting a variety of game like deer and turkey is as routine a form of recreation here in the craggy, wooded Ozarks of south-central Missouri as beer and baseball is in some parts of the nation.
Of course those deriding these ideas conveniently forget that 1/3rd of America's schools already have armed guards.
I'd also add, painting this idea as just the "NRA's" is a lie.

Hmmm, NYT also reports today that the gun control bill in the Senate is in trouble:
Deep divisions within both parties over a bipartisan measure to extend background checks for gun buyers are threatening its chances as the Senate this week begins debating the first broad gun control legislation in nearly 20 years.

True real Americans "realize" the eaziest path to tyranny is when a government attempts to seize it's citizenry only REAL option to protect AND defend one own's "constitutional" freedoms
Our Founding Fathers knew what the hell they were doing before they EVER ratified anything before they created the greatest Republic or society mankind has ever known We are all so fortunate

I'd have no problem with it if it was made clear on where teachers would have the weapons stored during instruction.
I only say this because I remember in elementary school, when I did hood rat things with my hood rat friends, going into our Spanish teachers desk.......and someone may have occasionally looked through her purse....not me though. Definitely not me, I would never have done that.
Anyways, I would hate for the weapon to be accessible to a bunch of 10 year olds.

Yep. They had a lot of wisdom regarding the nature of man and the state of government. Too many pretend those principles don't apply today. They are wrong.

I think the partisan lemming gun-Nut talking points will start to fade as the prescribed anti-obama spin with the bombings will get the attention moving forward...
will be interesting to see how 14dabob blames obama as personally responsible for pushing the button to detonate the bombs himself...
Kinda like that thread about obama being responsible for the lights going out at the superbowl

Do you think there will be a point when the partisan lemming Anti-Gun Nut talking points will start to fade as well?

Train your question is a good one with one very simple and absolute answer. The weapon has to be on the administrator and in their control at all times. I think something thats being assumed with these talks is that most people think every teacher will need to be armed. That is completely not the case. All people associated with the school will not be comfortable with firearms. And even of those that are, may not be comfortable carrying in that environment. The solution is to arm responsible and comfortable people only and post this as its being done completely anonymously. The knowledge that armed people are present is what will prevent future violence. With that being said, there should be something like a Bulldog printing safe where the weapon could be stored but only in extreme situations.
I have instructed teachers on several occasions and you get an idea right away on who should and should not be candidates to be possibly carrying.

Like I said, I'm on board with it as long as teachers/administrators are responsible with weapons. It's a good idea until kids get in trouble with a weapon. It would lose a lot of support once something were to go wrong.

After one of these "trained" teachers shoots a 9 year old in the head while missing their intended target, the school district will be sued and they'll wish they never had allowed this insane idea to come to fruition.

So you and crusher believe that criminals and the mentally disturbed should be allowed to own and bear arms?

You are a dreamer. Try being a realist. You actually believe that guns in this day and age in the hands of the citizens of the US can or would prevent a tyrannical govt?

A representative for families of the Newtown shooting victims has asked Senator Mitch McConnell to hold a meeting with them, according to sources familiar with the request. McConnell’s office initially declined the request on the basis of scheduling, a source says — and now family members are set to call McConnell and reiterate the request personally
I have no good will towards these people. They're just lobbyists now. Lobbyists pathetically trying to capitalize on emotion.

Um, read post 3. Crusher is refering to your post 2 and in post 5 you agreed with a "yep". Connect the dots.
Uh, instead of instructing me to "connect the dots" how about you stop pretending that the Toomey/Manchin Amendment would do anything to prevent crime?
Because it is already illegal in all 50 states for anyone who“has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution.” to possess or purchase a firearm.
And, both federal and state laws consider a felon to be disqualified to purchase or possess a firearm.
So stop coming in here and pretending that by being against Toomey/Manchin - or any gun control bill or amendment under consideration, that I'm for criminals or mental defects owning guns, because that is already illegal.
Thanks.

If what your asserting is true, why is the government always trying to confiscate firearms?
And, why don't you tell us General, if the government is so powerful and would over match the 200 million + citizens who own guns, why a 1,000 armed civilian-soldier Somali's were able to hold off the Army Rangers, Delta Force, AH-1 Cobra helicopter gunships, Little Birds and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters (A United States Navy P-3C Orion would provide the necessary surveillance overhead) for 17 hours? You realize the US pulled troops out of Somalia after that, right?
I can't wait to read all about your military analysis.
