    its the left/right paradigm

there is no room for thought, compromise, or understanding

    its me vs you

    conservative vs liberal

    rebublican vs democrat

    rich vs poor

    black vs white

    muslim vs christian

    atheist vs christian

and any other end of the spectrum vs the opp end

its how the system is run, this is the strength of our modern political system

hell, you even have corportions giving money to both sides in fear of giving nothing or favoring one side

divided we fall and we have never been more divided, we have never been this close to failure yet we the people have never been more powerful if we could get on the same page

i try to appreciate both sides of most arguments but fall victim to the mean spirits more often than not

Honestly this whole right vs. left thing really has to stop. Were getting screwed no matter who is in office right now. America is an oligarchy now and the people need to realize it.

And this is coming from a guy that really believed in obama and really thought he would fix the mess that happened under bush. Needless to say, I have been duped.

Uh, the "viewpoint" you posted is mainstream liberal thought.

It isn't "alternative" by any means.

tbw Vanzack revenues to the US treasury almost doubled from 1980 to 1988, from 364 billion to 607 billion

GDP increased from 2.79 Trillion to 5.1 Trillion

Seems like it worked pretty good to me.

    shs,

Plenty has changed since that time..we were much more of a manufacturing "entity" then versus now, so for sure the production money was given here, spent here, taxed here.

Now you have corporate thieves outsourcing pretty much anything paying more than min wage and the revenue flies with it, the tax revenue flies with it.

There used to be a real middle class, and a large one..a working middle class, now we have the serfs and the slave owners and not as much in the middle.

How about this for a better metric- how much CORPORATE profits were generated then, how much now? How much of corporate profits were taxed then and pre-then and now?

We are an old K-car driving down the street leaking oil all over the place as a country.

Wall - We have had similar discussions before and I am not in the financial industry so you have more experience and knowldge about the subject than I.

It seems to me though that the current idea of tax the rich, punish greedy corporations, etc isn't going to do anything but drive them away even faster.  Instead shouldn't we begin encouraging business to make products here and expand and grow here?I am personally in favor of a 0% tax rate on income generated by corporations that employ Americans working in the USA.  If we can create an environment where business can make money, then they may be enticed to come here and bring their jobs with them.

We won't get the revenue from the company, but the more working Americans will have a multiplier effect in the economy which will lead to more taxes collected.

Oh I dont blame the corporations for cheating as they do, we allow it.

Since the government is owned by corporations there isnt much to stop them either.

If I were in control and running the joint then I would work like this..if a corporation wants to export production and manufacturing, yet keep the benefit of domestic executive HQ's, then I would tax their products as imports..just as we tax other foreign produced goods. If they fall below a very low threshold of foreign vs domestic production and manufacturing then they are treated as a foreign company as to the IMPORTS they export and re-import to the country.

If you are going to tax shoes from Germany as an import, you tax shoes made in China and imported to Washington sold as Nike.

If the corporation gets ticked off and wants to leave, feel free to leave and import your goods to us as a foreign entity.

Until you make it a disincentive to export, it will continue.

I dont agree with the zero tax rate on corporations either, especially in the face of record corporate profits..why do they NEED to avoid taxation? If anything the corporation entity gains more advantage from our national infrastructure and government than individuals do. If anything, corporations should be taxed MORE, just close the loopholes, stop the freebies and tax at a reasonable rate versus taxing at a high rate and not collecting any revenues.

Who should pay for the use of a toll road, the guy who uses it or the guy who does not?

Who should pay for the fee to enter the Grand Canyon and enjoy its benefits, the people who use it, or the people who do not?

Who should pay the tax on cigs, the people who use it or those who do not?

Who should pay for the motor vehicle tax to keep up roads and services, the people who own cars or the ones who do not?

Those who gain more should pay more, especially if those who are earning more (corporations) are earning MUCH more, while those who are owned by the corporations are earning much less.

by owning do you mean supporting your socialist talking points, if so then you are correct.
WSC continually points to the ills of corporations corrupting the government but it is backwards to me as could ever be.  The government is corrupt by nature and encourages crony capitalists.  He believes in more and just government rather than minimalistic government allowing true liberty.
you believe in socialism as does he whether he admits it publicly or not.
not that it will make a difference so i dont really know why i am trying but here are some famous quotes that i recently read which fit the bill here

It is easy to understand why the law is used by the legislator to destroy in varying degrees among the rest of the people their personal independence by slavery, their liberty by oppression, and their property by plunder. This is done for the benefit of the person who makes the law, and in proportion to the power that he holds.

If you wish to prosper, let your customer prosper. When people have learned this lesson, everyone will seek his individual welfare in the general welfare. Then jealousies between man and man, city and city, province and province, nation and nation, will no longer trouble the world.

Here I encounter the most popular fallacy of our times. It is not considered sufficient that the law should be just; it must be philanthropic. Nor is it sufficient that the law should guarantee to every citizen the free and inoffensive use of his faculties for physical, intellectual, and moral self-improvement. Instead, it is demanded that the law should directly extend welfare, education, and morality throughout the nation.

    drJ,

Prove where I have blindly supported socialism without conditions or precursors in front of the comment?

My comments have been that if the government is providing services, that I would prefer it go to the lesser of the social group..so if that is socialism as the only definition I guess I fit it.

I do not support handouts to corporations as they are the holders of wealth, influence and control..the people who have the least are the most deserving. My viewpoint is of helping those in the most need, that does not equate to blind socialism to me, rather that if the choices are to give benefits to corporations or HIGH wealth vs lower income, I will always choose lower income be the beneficiary.

I also support phaseouts of benefits as people grow out of poverty and above the median income.

I would rather support smaller government and lower taxation, at the hand of other means to reduce expenses..mainly by high income phase outs of benefits and freebies, elimination of corporate freebies, reduction of unnecessary military and placing more controls on corporations..removing them from all aspects of politics, by enforcing existing tax rules and removing loopholes to those who earn the most and pay the least.

blindly, not hardly.  your eyes are open but i feel what half of what you believe is wrong.  we both condemn crony capitalism and unfair laws being passed through bribes to congress etc.
where i disagree with you is that taxation laws should hold up the dregs or needy of society(philanthropic laws as the quote i mentioned above).
once a gov begins to create such entitlement laws the machinery naturally exists for the shrewdest and often richest to use that machinery to create or expand crony capitalism.  once looting is legalized it cannot be controlled by any particular morality since looting by itself is immoral.

I clearly meant what you just proved - that you cant accept that others have an alternative viewpoint TO YOUR VIEWPOINT.

Er, I didn't dispute you have an "alternative viewpoint" to my own.

What I pointed out is that the article you posted was full of lies.

My bad. I forgot you right wing idiots use "Yacht Sales" as an economic indicator. In that case the 80's were a great decade.

They were if you wanted a job.

What is funny is you seem to be disputing there was economic growth in the 80's.

I would love to see you prove me wrong.

I forgot, you left wingers use emotion instead of facts.

    PS,
In the seven quarters following the ’81–’82 recession, GDP growth averaged 7.1%

But I guess you don't want that to be true, so now you can insert you silly talking point here ______

. I forgot you right wing idiots use "Yacht Sales" as an economic indicator

I forgot, you left wingers use emotion instead of facts.

    PS,
In the seven quarters following the ’81–’82 recession, GDP growth averaged 7.1%

But I guess you don't want that to be true, so now you can insert you silly talking point here ______

During the 80's we still had a reasonable manufacturing base and we were stupidly overpaying for bad goods we were producing.

The 80s were not as good as you remember from watching tv shows..poverty was very high, UE numbers were high, interest rates were still high, the government accumulated a large ammt of debt and fed our defense corporations tons of easy cash with that pathetic USSR mythical boogey man media concoction Reagan created.

We also opened the government to the thieves of the private sector and completely halted our energy initiative, which had it been fed instead of destroyed, we might not be in the position we are now.

Just think if solar had continued to develop 30 years ago at the clip it was during Carters term..thank goodness for Reagan allowing us to be bent over long term by OPEC for short term cheap oil.
