There's no doubt that President Obama feels the heat of the voters. One could compare the situation to Jimmy Carter or George H.W. Bush. It was the economy stupid. But hey, those recessions weren't nothing compared to this one. So what happened back then? Ronald Reagan won in a huge landslide, while Bill Clinton swept Bush out of office.
So it's natural to assume that the GOP has the table set to oust Barack Obama, the steward during the most difficult economy since the Great Depression.
But one thing has changed: Americans don't trust the Republican Party anymore. Not that they are enamored by the Democrats . . .
Many conservatives will counter with, "Sure, Americans will follow the party of the handouts" What's the difference of handouts for the middle class and poor as against handouts for the wealthy?
The problem is that more Americans are being driven to poverty than to the land of honey. And the GOP is without a message besides deriding "The Food Stamp President". Well about 50 million Americans are on food stamps. I guess the GOP isn't getting that vote.

I'll be the first person to say I question all polls that are taken because of the methods used to take them, let alone the sample size.
It reminds me of Dubya Bush's re-election campaign though. It's not that anyone really wants to vote for the incumbent. It's that no one wants to vote for the guys running against him.....except for Ron Paul. But the GOP refuses to push Ron Paul to the forefront of this race.
Ron Paul would beat Obama(and imo, running away with the race) but he isn't being pushed to the front of the race. I just don't trust Gingrich, Romney, or Santorum to be in charge of this country.
It's not that I want Obama for four more years, but I would take him over the other three.

I wish somebody from the democrat party would have stepped up to challenge Obama. I really thought Hillary was gonna jump in, she probably could have taken him this time. They must have more dirt on her now

K-train, I couldn't agree with you more. The establishment is afraid of Ron Paul. They've used the media (which they own) to downplay Paul as a nobody. But consider this: Of all the candidates running for POTUS, who has the most passionate supporters? Who do active duty military personal and veterans support by a wide margin?
So many come on forums like this one and complain about the way things are, then they will turn around and vote for a continuation of the way things are. Obama/Romney offer no hope for the drastic change we need. Only Ron Paul is saying the things that are the most important.

Cd, that would have been nice, but Hillary is no saint. History will remember her and her husband as political juggernauts, and that wasn't meant to be a compliment.

This is easy. If this election is about Obama then maybe whatever idiot the gop throws in there might win. If its about the gop idiot then its obama. the media war will be the most expensive and hard fought in history.

Dude, it's about who's representing the voters. Your opinion and my opinion don't decide elections, it's the comingling of 300 million opinions. Clearly the Republicans don't have a message that's resonating, leaving a weak president to win.

Promark I realize the dislike you have for Republicans, but could your sitings not mean that republican voters are holding a higher standard to who they want as a candidate. That they actually want answers and a sensible direction to eliminate some of the problems we have as a country? If the roles were reveresed I don't see the Democrat voters as a group having much of a problem at all with Obama. When elected, he was completely unproven and inexperienced as to the level of office he was about to fill, and yet he was looked upon like an immortal. I know very few "right leaning" voters that are satisfied with any option they have and just voting for the party guy is not an acceptable way to break this psychotic cycle.

but that is their whole message and how the party thinks in terms of falling in line and marching in step with a dictated and prescribed world view, it is probably their best strategy...

Potter, I have been a big critic of Obam and the whole Democratic Party, Yeah I admit I dislike the Republican Party, but I dislike the Demos too. What I am pointing out is that the Republicans SHOULD be WAY out in front right now, but they are lagging badly behind a unpopular president.
That's telling that the majority of voters find Obama's message preferrable to the GOP. And not one of you right wingers has yet to confront that. Most of you don't know what it's like to lose a job and accept food stamps then come to this forum and be clowned by being lazy.

I have no use to be affiliated with anyone party. I lean more right than left on many issues but I dont blindly vote by the letter next to their name.
If the GOP would pick a canidate already it would be different story. This drag out beat each other up that they are doing is only giving the Dems more ammo.
I couldnt vote for Santorum as he think he is too far right with his views but also for his voting record basically backing larger govt.
RP, I just dont think he has a chance in hell to beat Obama
Mitt, another suit and say anything type just to get elected
Obama, seen him in action and dont like what I see.

lordspoint, you just about summed up the feellings of a lot of voters. I just question why you don't like Ron Paul. Now usually when I make these points, I never get a response:
HE WILL DRASTICALLY CUT THE BUDGET, WE CANT CONTINUE TO SPEND LIKE WE'VE BEEN DOING
HE WILL NOT SEND TROOPS INTO A COSTLY WAR WITHOUT WARRANT. WHAT GOOD DID IRAQ OR AFGANISTAN DO US BESIDES BURY US DEEPER IN DEBT AND LOSE THE LIVES OF OUR BRAVE SOLDIERS
MOST SOLDIERS AND VETERANS SUPPORT RON PAUL BY BIG NUMBERS. AND THEY KNOW A BIT MORE ABOUT FORIEGN POLICY THAN US CIVILIANS
HE WILL UNVEIL WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON AT THE FEDERAL RESERVE. NO MORE CREATIVE ACCOUNTING.

My thoughts exactly k-train
Ive seen Ron Paul debates and interviews where he embarrasses left wing and right wing politicians and embarrasses left wing and right wing political commentators.
He is the only politician alive that can see what both sides are up to. Ive heard him say "The democrats are bankrupting us and as a republican I don't want to control you. Where in the constitution does it say I have the right to dictate your life?" That moment I said to myself...he gets it.
Democrats and Republicans despise Ron Paul. That tells me he is the best candidate for the times we live in.

I was a lifelont Democrat. Ron Paul IS the only candidate that would make me vote Republican. Romney or Santorum will not sway me in a million years.
Don, poll after poll has demonstrated that in a hypathetical matchup, Ron Paul fares BETTER against Obama than Romney or Santorum.
Concerning polls, if the poll is not flattering, politicians will announce their distrust in them. However, if the poll is flattering, they will quote them.

I was a lifelong Democrat. Ron Paul IS the only candidate that would make me vote Republican.
Same here. I am actually thinking about going to a Ron Paul rally. I will feel so out of place.
I hope I don't feel out of place. I have been against the elephant and still am against the elephant but I am a fan of the Abraham Lincoln republican party not the mentally ill one that exists today.
Ron Paul represents the old Abraham Lincoln republican party. The media is suppressing Ron Paul. If Ron Paul's message was being heard on a daily basis I truly believe he would win.

As a Democrat, Ive felt that government had a place to help shape society in a positive way. This Democtat, Barack Obama, has undermined the middle class. He's sold out to the corporate interests who will help his campaign.
But most important, Obama, just like Bush, has tried again and again to take our freedoms away. If you go to that Ron Paul rally, you will feel at home. There will probably be many former Republicans and Democrats FED UP with the way their party does business.
He's trying to restore the American way of life. Freedom is the foundation of both conservatism and liberalism.
