Conservatives had a great run during the Reagan years. Rush Limbaugh made "Liberal" a dirty word, even Liberals ran away from it and became "Progressives".

But oh how times have changed. Yesterday Obama mentioned "Gay Rights". Recent polls now favor gay marriage, and a majority of Americans favor abortion rights too, according to NBC News.

The younger generation is the catalyst behind the changes and these changes will only get more popular as time goes on.

Sean Hannity claims America is still Center-Right. I disagree.

The NBC poll regarding Abortion is being touted as some sort of vindication of a pro-abortion view. Well, let's look at the numbers.

* 31% - Always legal
* 67% - Some restrictions/always illegal

See, when you have:
9% believing abortion should be illegal in all circumstances;
35% believing abortion should only be legal in the case of rape & woman's health;
23% believing abortion should be legal most of the time

That adds up to an overwhelming majority favoring abortion restrictions.

As far as the nation as a whole.

1. Neither Harry Reid or Al Franken will publicly endorse a Federal Assault Weapons Ban

2. The Republicans control 26 state legislatures and 30 Governorships

3. Jay Carney (this afternoon): Obama believes that happy marriage should be a state issue

4. In poll after poll solid majorities favor cutting federal spending and say the size of government is too big.

That&#x27;s exactly the point of this thread.  Obama laid out a progressive agenda, he is considered the most liberal prez perhaps in history and he won reelection.   What does 1948 have to do with right now?&#xD;&#xA;Think, 5 out of the last 6 including the "most liberal" in history.

14road, before the last election, there were many indications pointing to an Obama victory.  There were some pointing to a Romney victory.  You chose to only look at the Romney indicators instead of looking at the whole picture.  You only see what you want to see.

Well, even the GOP couldn&#x27;t nominate a conservative, they usually vote for the most liberal too.   Look at Romney.

What does 1948 have to do with right now?I didn&#x27;t say it had anything to do with right now. I was using it as a reference point demonstrating that Democrats don&#x27;t get elected to two terms any more than Republicans do in the last 60&#x2B; years.And note Bill Clinton never received more than 50% of the popular vote so in fact both times he ran, a majority voted against him.So the "5 of the last 6" popular vote line is silly.

I agree. I think the country is more left then it was in the past.

I thought Romney would win because he was a middle of the road candidate. That is why I created the thread about I don't know how Repubs could win in 2016. If he couldn't win I don't think any Repub would have.

As far as G-A-Y rights, Happy rights, or whatever the hell else Covers wants to call it I disagree with you Pro. I don't even care about this issue but when a happy marriage issue has been put on a ballot and people voted on it the bill always failed. I'm sure when NBC does a poll it's going to show people are in favor of g-a-y marriage but polls don't always pan out the way people vote.

Doesn't NBC own the Bravo?

FYI folks, I gave Limbaugh credit for effectively destroying the "L" word. And I chastised Liberals for running away from themselves. I never did. I always proclaim myself a "Liberal", rarely a "progressive".

And I stated that conservatives had their run in the 1980's and into the '90's too. My point being, the pendulum has swung the other way.

I get your point, Cano, me sighting NBC is like 14road always using "Rassmussen Reports" or Michael Barrone or person Morris. But it is significant when Obama mentions it in his acceptance speech yesterday.

And many of the concerns of our generation and certainly in the generation before us don't apply to the younger generation. Maybe before we die, we'll have a happy prez.

I know it&#x27;s early and 14road doesn&#x27;t pay attention to betting lines, but Bovada has a line on 2016.  The Dems are -130, the GOP -110.  After 8 years of a Demo, the GOP SHOULD win this one, if not, uh-oh.

The trend is definitely center-left in this country, and demographics play a large part, particularly the growth of Hispanics over the Years. Consider the following voting blocs voted overwhelmingly for O'bama ;

* Hispanics
* Blacks
* Single Women
* College Educated Women

To us Republicans.. the trend is not your friend.
