It's the results of identity politics. Most skilled trade union members are blue colored types who in the current political climate, identify more with conservative values. Or more specifically, what they have been led to believe are conservative values. So they choose sides, and rewrite history. I know that when I was an apprentice, I had to do coursework on the history of organized labor. NAFTA is widely looked at as being anti-organized labor, and was the Democrats. 40 years of screwing over unions though, i'm not seeing it. I know several teamos. Many actually. I think they're more concerned with loading and driving trucks, and not so much with the history of unions.

This morning I attended my orientation program as a volunteer to work in our local voting precinct. They laid down some basic rules of behavior.
Do not wear a blue or red shirt. No baseball hats.
Do not engage in any political discussion with voters. If someone becomes difficult because they are in the wrong precinct or their address doesn't match the state's records etc, we are to send them to the "special handling" table. This keeps the lines moving & if anyone gets outrageous we are to bring them into the backroom & kick the shit out of them. Well, not exactly but we will have a local officer at the location. Voters can, as they should be, wear whatever the hell they want. That's another reason we will have an officer on site.
My work hours are from 7 AM to noon. So I'll get the older voters out on their bike route, working folks voting before they go to work & maybe some from after playing 9 holes. I live in a very red town, so I expect a decent turnout.
October 7th was the deadline for registration in Florida. However, you can request a ballot mailed to you by October 24th. At least in Florida, there's no way that ballot gets to the voter & returned in time. The postmark is the key for those ballots arriving late. Check out the rules in your state.
Take the time vote. It may be the most important vote of your life.
