    And of the 30% of debt over Obama's 8 yrs, a very large portion of that was *CAUSED* by the 2008 republican induced recession.

    Likewise, in addition to contributing a whopping 25% to the national debt IN ONLY 4 YEARS we have to consider that *MOST* of the debt incurred under the current Biden admin was once again to save America from the failures of the previous republican admin, via forced spending

    We will keep in mind too that the trump admin was spending an estimated $300 MILLION per day to keep the Afghanistan war going for 4 years....whereas thanks to President Biden, by pulling us out of that war, we are no longer spending on that reckless war which the republicans dragged us into 20 years ago.

    Propublica reports that Trump the king of debt promised to reduce the national debt.  Then his tax cuts make it surge.  Add in the pandemic and he oversaw the third largest debt increase of any president.  Next to Bush and Lincoln.

    Can you do an assessment on this factored in the above:

    ”Let's be clear: America's debt problem isn't the result of former President Donald Trump's tax cuts. While I believe these tax cuts should have been offset by closing some of our many loopholes and reducing government spending, they didn't cause our fiscal problems. The fiscal imbalance is not because of reduced revenues. Last year, federal revenue as a share of the economy was a full percentage point above the historical average.“

    US doesn't have a high spending problem.  It has a low tax problem according to study by Center for American progress.  Two decades ago, spending was projected to not exceed tax revenues for 65 years.  Although projections of long term spending have decreased, projections of long term revenue have decreased significantly more.    If not for tax cuts, debt as a percentage of the economy would be declining indefinitely despite increases in spending.  Instead tax cuts are responsible for 57% of the increase in debt since 2001.  Congress budget office say any path toward lower budget deficit would involve tax increases and not just spending cuts.

    @thirdperson

    Please do not forget to factor this in.  You skipped right over it.  How do you explain her statement? an_popcorn

    According to Huffpost, House republicans are proposing new tax cuts which would create budget deficits adding to debt every year.  Total US tax revenue equals about 24% of GDP which is well below the 34% weighed average for other OECD countries.  US ranks 32nd out of 38 OECD countries in tax to GDP ratio.

    What’s happening just recently , and also in the past , and most likely in the future , is that the members of opposing political parties here in the covers.com political forum will not intermingle in discussion , but instead evade and run from conversation , pretending that they don’t see comments directed towards them , like it’s some children’s game focusing on fantasy and imagination , when in reality , it’s a bitter pill to swallow , because they are enabling the current dysfunction of things even more , and making things worse , with their sophomoric and ridiculously immature behavior …..

    @spockgato

     There is nothing wrong with not answering a combative reply or a goofy riddle meant to demean and antagonize, in fact I would say it is better to avoid an obvious contentious reply than to engage with someone like you who is just looking to pick a fight.

    Instead of trying to provoke and intimidate just ignore their group interactions and stick to the group you associate with. Ive noticed that certain members who are opposite but still respectful and seeking good discussion get more replies than a few of you who are obviously bothered and are just trying to break in to their interactions and insult as you so often do.

    Please just leave that alone and quit with the stalking...

    @wallstreetcappers

     I do not think he was combative at all.  I think he is frustrated that the guy will not reply to anything no matter how kindly you ask.  That is why everyone assumes he is a BOT and is still allowed to be on here.

    What are your examples of anyone on here asking politely for a reply and getting a decent discussion from the other side?  You will discuss things from time to time.  But I honestly have seen none of the others do it; none of the other hardcore Leftists on here even try to have a discussion.  They simply keep repeating their same little talking points back and forth to each other and refuse interaction from the other side and they certainly do it in a more antagonizing way than @spockgato did.  When someone posts something they do not agree with, they quote a post from two pages ago and give a handshake.

    As you always like to say, that adds nothing to the conversation and is antagonistic at best.

    So, yes, you are correct that it is best to ignore them mostly.  But those are not the ones he was replying to.

    But it is supposed to be a forum for interaction and not just posting one view and a lot of cheerleading with no debate.  If you do not want interaction and questioning from an opposite viewpoint -- then it should be an option for a post only and no replies in those types of threads.  Of course, it should always be done in a civil manner.

    I think he did that just fine.  He did not use name calling or any of the bad adjectives you guys usually use.  He was simply being persistent to get a reply.

    I have noticed on here it seems only the middle of the road types and the Right that are willing to even discuss things; the Left will not do it.  My contention is that they cannot support their ideas well enough or do not like to entertain another viewpoint at all.

    But that is fine with me.  There are plenty of other entirely political forums that will do a back and forth on issues.

    It is just frustrating to some on here that on this website this is the ONLY forum in which that is not done.

    So, I can see where he is coming from and I do not think he was out of line.  He was simply more direct instead of being snarky and sideways about it. peace_5

    As I can , and will , and do , on the repeat …..

    I will habitually refuse to believe in untruths or the lunacy of what people do and the tomb of “ what seems to be “ , cuz I’m more concrete than what gets so bruised too easily , whether it be the ego or my cheeks , cuz I can take it and give it both , and I do it wholesome and brutal , but mostly neutral , truthful and equally …..

    so don’t be consumed with just the one room with a view cuz there’s beautiful scenery , it’s just that some people choose to rule their roost  with their visibility and scrutiny on what doesn’t move them to exuberance losing the ability …..

    to call it straight down the middle ….

    and this is my nightmare cuz wherever I stare it is this , and that shit is horrible …..

     I only addressed your repeated complaints on why those guys do not engage with you and its blaringly obvious to me and it is what I stated above. You are not seeking intelligent conversation with their subset at all, you constantly antagonize them and try to provoke them, you make fun of their style of interaction even though it has NOTHING to do with you. The way they interact bothers you and you try to get a reaction from them. You try to get cute with the little digs in your replies, you mock and incite and act like you really care but you do not.

    Dont try and force others to reply and engage with you, there are several who are actually heeding our advice about not engaging with others if you are inclined to break the rules or make things personal so this is actually following the rules as they have been asked. If they do not want to play the games you are seeking with them please just move to the subset who agrees with you or wants to try and decipher your rhetoric when it is sarcastic and is ok with that.

    You do not have to agree or like their style but it is not breaking a rule it is not attacking or personally intimidating you directly so just move along and let them exist as they want even though it bugs you.

    I wouldn’t call it complaints , I would call it gripes , but tomato tomahto ……

    know what I’m sayin’ ?

    And it’s not simply with the people in this forum . Nope . They are just a microcosm or an example of the larger picture when you look at the inhabitants living on this planet , and what they do day after day , decade after decade ….

    and that is talk in circles , and around each other , accomplishing little if anything constructive , noteworthy , or long lasting …..

    and yes I am seeking intelligent conversation . But I don’t give a fuck about subsets , groupthink , teams , affiliation , cliques , or gangs , cuz when all is said and done , and when you take your last breath , you enter what’s next as an individual , and alone , before you are allowed to enter the all encompassing energy of everything …….which is the unknown .

    I choose to believe it is brilliant , and I choose to believe that there are patches of it’s existence that you can see here on Earth .

    Whether it’s the feeling you get when you see a baby’s smile , or the joy and laughter celebrating an accomplishment within yourself , with your own goals , or the triumphs of others , succeeding with their goals or achievements , or maybe you can find it in one of the beautiful images our landscape offers up to our eager and fascinated eyes .

    It’s there . There are glimpses . And hiding yourself , and your thoughts , behind a veil of fear is not one of them . There is no brilliance in that . And no honor in that ….

    Only turmoil multiplying itself with heartache …..

    That is what is being done here , in this forum , but more importantly , and scarily , that is what is being done globally . If you surmise that it is okay to simply separate people that call themselves UNITED , well , call me Ben Dover , cuz I’m fucked ……

    so in fact it has Everything to do with me . Cuz I deal with this kind of shit all day , every day , and it is a road to ruin . It’s a Dead End . Life is less pleasurable by way of the fornication being done to true justice and open conversation by those unwillingly to be just a little bit uncomfortable , and who never want to take a chance ……

    risk vs reward is only trophies of understanding when it comes to respectful communication …..

    And I’m not forcing anyone to do anything . We each choose and make our own decisions . If they choose to not reply to me so be it , I’ve been shunned , and worse things have been done to me , by ahem , “ better “ people .

    And yes I do care so please don’t answer for me as I have thousands upon thousands of words to describe whatever situation I’m currently involved in and how I feel about it  peace_5

    Rhetoric and riddles ? Come on . Straightforward is too easy . Too simple and plain . It’s like taking the same exact path over and over again to a mundane and forgettable destination . Nobody cares about anything but being right . And I don’t mean GOP . I had to look that up . Thanks . I’m not anything that you gentlemen are in here so please don’t label me as such , with any , well , I guess labels . I’m just here to learn your politics . You are teaching me a lot ……peace_5
