TWITTER use may have caused Bank collapse

New York CNN —

The massive amount of customer withdrawals that led to the
collapse of Silicon Valley Bank had all the hallmarks of an
old-fashioned bank run, but with a new twist befitting the
primary industry the bank served: much of it unfolded online.

Customers withdrew $42 billion in a single day last week from
Silicon Valley Bank, leaving the bank with $1 billion in negative
cash balance, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The staggering withdrawals unfolded at a speed enabled by
digital banking and were likely fueled in part by viral panic
spreading on social media platforms and, reportedly,
in private chat groups.

In the day leading up to the bank’s collapse,
multiple prominent venture capitalists took to Twitter in particular,
and used their large platforms to raise alarms about the situation,
sometimes typing in all caps. Some investors urged startups to
rethink where they kept their cash. Founders and CEOs then
shared tweets about the concerning situation at the bank in
private Slack channels, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Trump is expected to be indicted in  the NY hush money probe.

Disgraced former President Trump is expected to be indicted soon
by a New York grand jury for his role in a hush money payment
made to porn star Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 election.

     In a post on social media over the weekend, Trump said he
expected to be arrested on Tuesday and called on his supporters
to protest — stirring security concerns around the courthouse

OPEC producers announce
voluntary oil output cuts

Saudi Arabia and other OPEC+ oil producers on Sunday
announced voluntary cuts to their production, with Riyadh
saying it would cut output by 500,000 barrels per day,
or bdp, from May until the end of 2023, state media reported.

Russia will keep cutting oil output through June
Russia’s deputy prime minister also said Moscow would extend
a voluntary cut of 500,000 barrels a day until the end of 2023.
The United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman and Algeria said
they would voluntarily cut output over the same time period.

SCOTUS conservatives ruling

(Reuters) -
The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday refused to let
West Virginia enforce a state law banning transgender
athletes from female sports teams at public schools,
one of many Republican-backed measures across the
country targeting LGBTQ rights.

The justices denied West Virginia's request to lift an
injunction against the law that a lower court had
imposed while litigation continues over its legality
in a challenge brought by a 12-year-old transgender
girl, Becky Pepper-Jackson.

Only two conservative justices, Samuel Alito and
Clarence Thomas, publicly dissented from the decision.

FYI....This case is being appealed at the lower court level.....The SCOTUS often refuses to reverse anything that is still being reviewed in appeal at the lower court level.  

Memphis officials set to vote on returning ousted Justin J. Pearson to the Tennessee House

The second of two BLACK Democratic lawmakers
expelled from the Tennessee House of Representatives
last week because they participated in a peaceful protest
over gun violence, could soon return to the chamber,
as officials in Memphis on Wednesday weigh whether to
appoint him as an interim representative.

Former South Dakota legislative Republican candidate Joel Koskan was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to two felony counts of incest, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

2nd BLACK Tennessee Democrat returned to state legislature

Memphis legislator Justin Pearson was restored to his seat
six days after Republicans booted him over a gun legislation protest.

The Shelby County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to
appoint Justin Pearson to fill the seat he lost last Thursday after a
supermajority of Republicans voted to boot him from office.

The Memphis legislator had joined with two colleagues and hundreds
of students and parents calling for government action in the wake
of the March 27 shooting at a Nashville elementary school
that resulted in six deaths.

All 4 of the board’s cowardly GOP members refused to attend the meeting.

A Texas Republican who has led the charge to ban all-ages drag shows because of his deep concern over “the sexualization of our children” is facing allegations of inviting an intern to his home late on a weekend night and serving her alcohol even though she isn’t old enough to legally drink.

Texas state Rep. Bryan Slaton has reportedly had a complaint filed against him with the Texas state legislature that claims he had an “inappropriate relationship” with an intern.

He does watch it!!!
