Recalling California's governor:
long shot or lost cause?

On Sept. 14, Newsom will become the third governor in
modern U.S. history to face a recall.

Newsom has a relatively high approval rating, is riding a booming
statewide economy with a massive budget surplus and helped lead
one of the most effective vaccine campaigns in the country.

“He’s likely to beat the recall attempt because Americans today
are so polarized, they tend to vote knee-jerk with their parties.
And there are nearly twice as many Democrats as Republicans in California.”

 The luster has worn off of Gavin and Californians are fickle so he could definitely be recalled but the way the timeline works out, by the time the process would work itself, he would basically be up for re-election. Then he would have to be primaried as no Republican will win that state in a straight up election. I moderate Republican could maybe swing it in a recall election but it would have to be one charismatic mother. With Arnold, he was an action movie star AND there were no strong Democratic candidates so he slid right in. And he was/is a very moderate Republican. I don't know if the GOP has that fits the bill. Most Republican politicians are either from the state of Jefferson, the Central Valley/Sierras, or certain pockets of the desert. Nobody like that would move the needle of a statewide election. That leaves you with the Orange County establishment Republican types and I don't see one of them moving the needle either.

Scientists are now learning about neurological consequences to
long-haul covid. Some studies have shown impacts on the brain
of people who have been infected with the virus.
One study in April found 34% of Covid-19 survivors received a
diagnosis for a neurological or psychological condition within
six months of their infection.

"What you're doing is your condemning a whole generation
of adolescents to neurologic injury totally unnecessarily,"
Hotez said. "It's just absolutely heartbreaking and beyond
frustrating for vaccine scientists like myself to see this happen."

Florida Rep. Vern Buchanan tested positive for COVID-19 after being
fully vaccinated earlier this year, according to a release from his office Monday.

The Republican is quarantining at home after experiencing
“mild flu-like symptoms,” according to the release.

“I look forward to returning to work as soon as possible,”
said Buchanan in the release.
“In the meantime, this should serve as a reminder that
although the vaccines provide a very high-degree of protection,
we must remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19.”

A member of Buchanan’s staff died of COVID-19 nearly a year ago.

Pelosi rejects two GOP members
selected for 1/6 committee

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday rejected the appointment of two Republicans who objected to the certification of the November election, Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana, to the House select committee that's investigating the January 6 insurrection.

Pelosi said in a statement she was accepting three of the five Republicans named by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy earlier this week, but she would not allow Jordan and Banks to serve on the committee.
"With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee," Pelosi said.

in Texas' 6th Congressional District, CNN projects
The Republican overcame the former President's backing of his opponent,
Republican Susan Wright, to claim victory.

The seat was already held by a Republican.

Trump endorsed Susan Wright shortly before the first round of voting,
then doubled down ahead of her one-on-one race with Ellzey.
He recorded a robocall for Wright in the final days of the campaign and
his super PAC, Make America Great Again Action, made a late $100,000 ad buy.

So, with full backing by trump, she lost and her opponent won

Donald Trump's power as a GOP kingmaker has suffered a blow
after voters chose Republican Jake Ellzey over the disgraced
former president's pick for a vacant seat in Congress,
sparking claims that he is "not bulletproof."

According to the Associated Press, Ellzey took 53 percent of the vote,
six points more than Trump-backed candidate Susan Wright
in the special election runoff for the Texas 6th congressional district.

The AP reported that Ellzey told supporters after his victory:
"One of the things that we've seen from this campaign is
a positive outlook, a Reagan Republican outlook, for the future
of our country is what the people of the 6th district really really want."

Nearly 230 Republican members of Congress told the Supreme Court
on Thursday that it should overturn Roe v. Wade

So, according to REPUBLICANS, the refrain: "My Body, My Choice!"
is wrong and must not apply!

Well, umm, except when it's inconvenient for THEM to wear masks in order
to reduce the spread of a highly contagious virus and protect OTHER PEOPLE.

Wearing a mask on a plane, makes sense. Wearing a mask while outside when there is limited amount of people around, makes no sense.

Newsom doesn't wear a mask. Newsom doesn't close down his own business. Newsom lets his kids goto school while everyone else is stuck at home.
