I was at a local bar that I frequent. Kind of the "older, young professionals crowd". Watching the games with a buddy, having a good time, when the cast of the Jersey shore walked in (not literally but you get the picture), blowout haircuts, dudes wearing tank tops under coats, giant chain/cross. Girls were orange from fake tan. Disgusting.
One of their buddies was not too bad though and he and one of the girls were talking to us about Rutgers (of course), and the future of the Big East. The guy ended up going back to his table, but the girl stayed at the bar talking to my buddy. Clearly a phone number getting/and or going back home situation, from what I could tell.
The greasiest of the guys walked by the bar saying something to the effect of " you don't want to hang out with these in-bread hillbillies" With a smile on his face half-joking.
Without even thinking I stood up cocked back and (surprisingly) slapped, (yes slapped) him harder than I have ever slapped anyone in my life. It made a huge smack sound, and everyone looked over. This guy was clearly stunned and didn't know what to do so he tackled me hit me a couple of times, but I was able to roll on top of him, I didn't reign down any blows, I just asked him if he was done, and after some weak attempts at a reversal or escape he conceded.
Also surprisingly , nobody was kicked out of the bar. Everyone just carried on like nothing had happened.
Had to go home with a fat lip. wife was not too impressed.
I think I am more sensitive to it because I did not grow up in this area, I just hate to be called a redneck or hillibily, especially by someone who is not a redneck or hillibilly.
Sorry... I don't mean to but in here but your post is fantastic. With the way you described it I could picture the whole thing happening.
And I agree with Ktrain. That guy will think twice before he does that again.
That's the thing about "that sort"... Most of them ARE like that because no one dares to stand up and say something... so they keep going...
aaaaaaaaaaand then he met you.
Like Ktrain said ; "You probably did the guy a favor."

Hey patti, i owe you an apology. When someone brand new pops into this forum, knee jerk reaction is to assume they are an alias. You know what they say about assumptions

Ktrain, i agree that throwing down once in awhile is healthy. It is instinctual to us humans, and i believe we are healthier for feeding those primal urges once in awhile
Lessons learned, "dont start no shit, won't be no shit". I was on the wrong side of my last fight. I started it, and accordingly got my ass kicked. Never be the one to throw the first punch.
Nothing to make a habit of, but there is something to be said of tasting your own blood, flipping your "fight > flight" switch, and pumping so much adrenaline you have to throw up
Rick, are you trained to the extent that the military would prosecute you for fighting?

No worries. No offense taken. .. but I appreciate the apology just the same.

In retrospect it was pretty dumb, I was a bit drunk, and a slap was definitely not previously part of my repertoire. I agree that things like this need to happen every 6 months or so to blow off some steam. I actually thought about joining a boxing gym when I was back in DC.
Be easy, I think that if I ever killed anyone in a fist fight my military training would probably work against me. OR at least that's how it went in Con-Air.

It always seems dumb in retrospect but it's really not. My last fight was a year ago and was on a work trip in Las Vegas. Started pretty much the same as yours. Some guy said something to a buddy of mine, I tried to calm him down, and then he said something to me. After that it was on. I was definitely wasn't sober but not completely hammered. That "switch" just flipped in my head and I punched the guy in the hotel lobby bar(we were staying at the Westin one block off the strip). I almost went to jail that night and word spread all over my work the next day. I wasn't allowed to travel with work for months(rightfully so) and that costs me extra money.
Still though I don't regret what happened only because I didn't have to go to Clark County Jail that night.

I have a boarder that got home from iraq last year, he told me on the way to the beach, to make sure he doewsnt get into anything, because if he does, its gonna be bad and hes gonna go to prison. He makes many wild claims but i have no reason not to believe the guy

I took my 9 yr old to a Bruins game last Friday and had an Irish fella going at it with an Italian guy. Brought back memories from youth in Boston listening to them jawing first. Mick this and Guido that...
Rick, you're a finer man than I for holding back, I always had this switch that once flipped took a while to return. Unless you were a highly trained fighter there's no way being in the military would be a legal issue. I'd love to known the average number of fistfights per serviceman year currently.

If anything, I would see the Military stepping in and charging a service-member to keep them out of civilian courtrooms, then treat them better in a court-martial.
I have seen some guys in my unit F up pretty bad, and Have heard some horror stories of friends of friends. Common theme is that military status definitely gets you preferential treatment, and at least one get out of jail free cards.
I can't count the amount of times that I have had a cop on the highway radar me at 10, 15 or 20 over the limit, pop out to pull me over then either not even pull me over or just give me a warning when they see my Veteran license plate ( definitely worth the $30).
I was also at a party where one of my buddies walked to the gas station to get another 24 pack because the keg was tapped. He was staggering and slurring his words, and a cop actually put him in the cruiser and was writing a ticket. My buddy called me from the back seat, and I went to talk to the cop, he asked for ID. I showed him my military ID and told him that the guy was in my unit and I would take him home. He didn't even finish writing the ticket. He offered a ride back to the party. I told him I still had to buy the beer. He actually waited and drove me and my bud 4 blocks back to the party and dropped us off.

Oh, but to the point. The guy's Platoon sgt. or squad leader might be a hardon that threatens shit like this, but I have never seen anything like that. I am sure that for Active military there are probably more standards for behavior, but nothing that I have ever seen.

The question is who are the Republicans going to nominate to run against him. I can't see myself voting for anyone other than Ron Paul. It just seems like Republicans don't want him to get the nomination.
I think if you look at who the GOP/conservative people who care about the next president they are saying Paul... if you are looking at the "anyone but obama" crowd, they could care less about the credentials/ability/experience of the next president and do not like paul because he is and has been always about principles, not personal attacks on obama... Paul also calls out the neo-cons which really upsets some of the hyper-political trolls on this site

This should not be that big of a problem here, Slim must have really liked Pats blog to...borrow it...The way I see its is not very ethical to plagiarize others work, unless you are a GOPer and then it's expected....Still this was hell of a good topic Slim started...Could be "Hall of Fame"
