Reid accused Republicans of trying to score political points by coming up with one reason after another to delay confirmation of a new Pentagon chief, including for the first time ever using the blocking tactic known as a filibuster to prevent a vote.
If confirmed, Hagel would replace retiring defense secretary Leon Panetta.
Democrats, who have remained united in support of Hagel, a former Republican senator from Nebraska, control 55 seats in the 100-member Senate and could confirm Hagel without any Republican backing. A Cabinet nominee requires the support of only a simple majority to be confirmed.

A Republican President woudl have been crucified if his nominee for Sec of Defense performed as poorly as Hagel did. Why do we even need a Sec of Defense at this point in time in our country's history with Obama and the Left set to destroy the finest military in the world through sequestration.

The ironies that I see with this in no particular order:
-Last time I checked Obama was the President. He gets to nominate someone. Think someone else won't be more liberal then former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel should they block him?
-Despite the GOP's best attempt every election to paint Democrats as not supporting Israel they lose the Jewish vote by nearly a 2:1 margin. Democrats problem with Jewish voters isn't their "support" for Israel it is that there are not more of them.
-Leading the anti-Hagel charge is none other than John McCain. After picking Sarah Palin as his VP you'd think that he'd have no credibility with the media.
-Good gosh is it funny to hear how pissed Republicans are that Chuck Hagel burned them by working for Obama.

The GOP's front man for this John McCain in his own words:
"To be honest with you, Neil, it goes back to-- there's a lot of ill will towards Senator Hagel because when he was a Republican, he attacked President Bush mercilessly, at one point said he was the worst president since Herbert Hoover, said the surge was the worst blunder since the Vietnam War, which is nonsense, and was anti his own party and people," McCain said.
Yes there is no direct quote saying "we are opposed to him because he is working for Obama but since he was willing to criticize Bush's policies in Iraq it is widely felt that he turned his back on the party hence their bitterness towards him since he burned them and didn't go along with the Party stance.

Um, that quote says no such thing. It is astounding what you leftists are willing to believe.
Astounding.

14 this is along the lines of your romney landslide predictions where you were boasting and boasting about rasmussen being right and how polls were over sampling democrats. It took you a month to come back and admit you were off. Need me to bump some threads for proof?
Mccain says that there is ill will towards Hagel because of how he was critical of Bush and the Iraq war. Being that we are out if Iraq what does that have to do with the next 4 years if being the Secretary of Defense? Why no questions to Hagel about what cuts should be made given the budget issues that we have. Simply put the GOP is against Hagel out of spite because he was once one of them and he turned against them. Everyone hates a party switcher.

I made no such "prediction" at all. Anyway, I'm not sure why you can't see that McCain is criticizing Hagel for what he said (it was all stupid) not for merely being critical of the President. Since McCain was critical of Bush too.
