Sooo, Rams (for example) chances of making Bowl were 2/32 = 6.25%. 1/16 chances of making Bowl, therefore 15/16 of NOT making it to the Bowl = 93.75%. The probability of no host team playing in the Bowl for 55 years is (15/16)^55 = .02873..... or 2.87%. Therefore, there was a 97.13% chance the host would have played before this year. Sooooo, TB and Rams playing in the Bowl was an expected TING. Winning them was also a high prob. Shocking there was not more. There are caveats - 24 teams early on, 7 non NFL team sites, outdoor cold weather sites are out etc. But even if you skew the numbers for the above, the chances would still be >80%.
