The Hurricanes are 14-2 at home this season vs. any opponent who defeated them in their most recent meeting. All 14 wins were by more than a goal. Incredibly, eleven of the fourteen wins were by more than two goals.
One of the 14 wins came in the playoffs. After losing Game 2 in Washington, the ‘Canes flattened the Caps 4-0 in Game 3.
One of the losses occurred after the team returned from the West coast and had one day of rest before falling flat against the Predators by a 3-1 score.
The other loss occurred in the final week of the season against the Maple Leafs. The ‘Canes took their foot off the gas in April, losing 7 of their last 8 games including a big fat 0-6 on the road.
All 16 of those games were revenge spots for road losses. This will be the first time this season that the Hurricanes have had the opportunity to avenge a home loss at home. The way I see it, if the ‘Canes were this ornery on home ice in response to a road loss that in most of these cases took place weeks or even months ago, imagine their foul mood over a humiliating home loss that took place two days ago.
The Hurricanes played six home games this season that followed a home loss. They went a perfect 6-0 in those games, winning four of them by more than a goal and the other two in overtime.
The Hurricanes played 6 games this season that followed a loss of 3 goals or more. They went 5-1 in those games, losing 4-2 at home to the Kraken three days after absorbing a 6-0 drubbing down in Sunrise against…….(gulp) the Panthers.
