Predict the loss. Will they beat Pittsburghs 17 straight?
The record for most without a loss(including ties which they use to have) is 35 by the 1979 Flyers.
@Flames

It has nothing to do with the penguins record. There were ties in the nhl back then so the penguins’ 17 wins were natural not aided by an overtime or shootout gimmick. The oilers have had three wins past regulation time in just the last ten games, I didn’t bother to look any further, so they’ve won just two games in a row using the same rules the penguins played under during the 17 game win streak. Just like Martin Brodeur never broke Bernie Parents record for wins in a season by a goalie as Parent had to deal with tie games while Brodeur won a number of games that season aided by overtime which would have been ties in Parents day. When it comes to wins and losses and points it’s a different league altogether.

They had OT just not shootouts.
Only 1 of the Oilers 12 was a shootout win. None the less it is 12 straight not really different than 17 straight. But the record of 35 without a loss is insane.

I should have been more specific, they did not have the gimmick which is the 3 on 3 overtime which is not natural to the game and and no it’s not the same it belongs in a different category. It has no correlation to what the penguins did should they get to 17 post gimmick OT and shootout aided wins. Altered sport. It can still be celebrated and not saying it’s not an achievement it just shouldn’t be held up against a sport from another time that’s all.

@weeble5672
Yes that’s right the pens record is not equal to the islanders record period. Zero argument there. Again achievements that can be greatly celebrated but not held up against if not the same. To defeat islanders record a team must win 16 games in regulation end of story. Otherwise they are simply setting a different kind of record. That’s why 50 goals in 50 games was such a historic achievement to do what Rocket Richard did because of their schedule shortness. Most goals in a season was an achievement after that but with an asterisk in mind, then Bossy did the 50 in 50 which was a massive deal then Wayne the 50 in 39 both celebrated widely for that very reason.

Personally for me, it's the 10 wins in this Oilers' streak that have been on the road AND the fact that they just had an 8 wins streak before that. They are truly hot since the end of November.

They are scorching hot and playing great hockey. Unfortunately no matter how well they do Gary Bettman and NHL marketing in America await them in the NHL (National Horseshit League) playoffs

@Polar_Bear
Could care less about the Leafs because they're not built for playoff hockey, but I do want to see a helluva run from Vancouver, Winnipeg and Edmonton, if those 3 make the playoffs.

I’m a Flyer fan but I’d love to see those three do great as well. Leafs need to not take up space in the playoffs and just fade away no one needs to see their garbage brand of soft heartless hockey in the playoffs anymore.

Penguins 17 straight was never beaten the season ended on a tie lol
In 2012 the Penguins lost their 15 game win streak to the 21-27 Sabres at home
Penguins held 11 straight opponents to 2 or less goals and off 3 straight shutouts. Lost another after that.
2016 Bluejackets lost their 15 game win streak at the Caps who were 55-27. Lost another after that.
2009 Caps with 14 straight loss to 39-43 Canadiens on the road. Lost 2 more after that.
Hard to see Blackhawks winning here. Predators after that. With a 10 day layoff so if they win these next 2 10 days off I think would halt momentum and a fade at Vegas.
