@ Polar_Bear not sure if you ever played the game but like i said after getting picked by Adams teammate he simply stuck his leg out if he doesn't try to stop him that way Adam would have been clear to the net and Matt being the ultimate competitor his last ditch effort was to stick his leg out and unfortunately Matt running into Adams teammate made his skate rise higher than he meant and the freak accident happened plain and simple. It’s not the same as driving a car they are moving at 30 kms per hr with no steering wheel and shit happens in that game. I remember in a Jr hockey game in the OHL a center man got clocked at center ice his helmet came off he hit his head on the ice and killed him instantly. I'm sure the player that hit him didn't mean to kill him its a tough sport and the same thing Bill Goldsworthy Minnesota North Stars hit head hits the ice and he died im sure who ever hit him meant to clock him didn't mean to kill him.
bro you’re really clinging to this story. He rose his leg up and wanted to hurt him. He is dirty as they come. I guarantee you have never played the game because this is deliberate. I have played hockey with my cousins since we were 5 and sorry I never got kicked in the throat or even had a skate touch my chest area. This was a kick dude

@lookingtowin Played the game my entire life and I don’t need your explanation of what you think your friend did, I viewed it myself and have my own unbiased opinion of what I saw, the same opinion many others have including many nhl players and other hockey players. Just you saying his skate rose higher than he meant is basically an admission of guilt as that is saying he stuck his skate in the air in the direction of the player which again is a completely fucked up thing to do. You don’t kick your skate out period, there’s a deadly weapon on the end of it and as you already noted it’s a super fast sport so doing such a thing is reckless as hell and if one man’s reckless actions causes the death of another man then he will be charged with manslaughter. You seem to not have a grasp of what manslaughter means. It does not mean he tried to cut this throat or kill him, it means his reckless actions caused the death of someone without intent or forethought of murder. Two guys engaging in a consensual fight together and one hitting his head is completely different. There was nothing consensual about your buddy kicking his skate out and ending up slicing the throat of a guy skating past him causing his death. Two completely different scenarios. As I said onions are split and I stated mine. Whatever happens he’s gonna live knowing his actions killed another man so he will have to carry that with him.
thank you he literally tried to hurt him. I have no idea why the original poster is trying to defend this guy. He was mad and literally wanted to hurt him by kicking up his leg like he was in a Bruce Lee movie. I don’t know why the original poster thought it’s a good idea to defend this creep bully on ice? Some people in the world I seriously just do not understand anymore how you can defend someone like this. This was as deliberate as it gets. I am a hockey player in men’s leagues in Nevada and cali and DIE HARD hockey fan. Sorry I got riled up with OP defending this goon

I apologize to Polar_Bear or you nuggins if I came across as someone who is condoning if it was anything other than a freak accident. I just wish Adam's teammate hadn't thrown that pic and it probably would have ended in a solid bodycheck from Matt.
your now really blaming it on Adam’s teammate oh my god buddy your in denial I have to leave this thread

So I guess the final final word is you guys know more than Adams team and teammates know and they know everything that was going on in that game before the accident and the fact there was absolutely nothing going on between Adam and Matt during the game very important part of all of what happened.

One final word Adam Johnson's own team said there should never have been any charges and it was a 100% freak accident.
nope who when ? I haven’t seen one player on his team say that. Bro Matt kicked him in the throat. You literally see his leg raise. I don’t care if his team said what it’s literally manslaughter. He killed someone. This has never happened so brutal. When Zednick accident occurred that was a freak accident this was murder

bro it’s just we all can’t see what your watching. Are you seriously watching the right video. Bro when he’s hit he clearly sees Adam and when he’s hit instead of just getting hit he is mad and retaliates by raising that skate. He wanted to cause serious harm and he should be locked away and never play hockey again. I hope the guilt weighs heavy the rest of his life. Poor Adam suffered and bled out in seconds. Matt is not a good person from what I am reading. Go see Matt being a bully virtually every game and the dirty hits and then come back and talk to me. He’s a dirty player and already injured another player this year as well

so looking to win even Forbes has come and and compared this to a karate kick. Forbes has the best explanation and I have copied it here:
While it’s perhaps unlikely that Petgrave will be charged criminally, an involuntary manslaughter charge is not out of the question. In attempting to impede Johnson’s progress, Petgrave plants his right leg to gain the necessary leverage to extend his left leg. As he alters his momentum, the right leg is straightened to support the raising of his left leg with a view to impeding Johnson’s progress. The act has been likened to a karate kick and for good reason.

For what my opinion is worth i blame some of this on the NHL video games where they make these hockey players look like super heroes flying all over the ice for no regard for the safety of themselves or their opponent. I dont think he mean to kill a guy with his skate but i do know that he did act reckless is that manslaughter your guess is as good as mine i really feel the NHL has to man up and admit they have made the game like the WWE whether you played hockey is irrelevant a picture says a thousand words. For the record i got as far as junior B only scored 22pts in 2 partial seasons 7 goals and 15 assist yes you could say i played on the 4th line.

BOTTOM LINE IS.. HE KILLED SOMEBODY!!!!!!!!! INTENTIONAL OR NOT.. HE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!! WHO STICKS THERE SKATE UP IN THE AIR TO TRY AND STOP SOMEBODY BECAUSE THEY ARE BEAT ON A PLAY!! It WAS A DIRTY PLAY!! ANOTHER HUMAN BEING LOST THEIR LIFE BECAUSE OF HIS ACTIONS.. HE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND BE PUNISHED FOR HIS ACTIONS!! PLUS.. HE HAS TO LIVE WITH THE FACT THAT HE KILLED ANOTHER HUMAN BEING AND CARRY THAT BURDEN WITH HIM FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE! I HAVE NO DOUBT JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED!!

A - You do NOT use your legs in hockey to make a hit. End of. No discussion. One of the dirtiest scumbag things you can do.
B - He never made hardly, if any, contact with Adams teammate. Certainly not enough to do that to his leg. And if he did, it would of been his other leg that naturally would of flown up in the air.
He was coming in at a bad angle. An angle I've seen him come in at for ALL 3 videos I've seen of him making hits. Each time he comes in at the same angle. 2/3 videos he makes contact WITH THE LEG. 1/3 he makes contact with his body at HIS OPPONENTS LEG (another scum move) while STILL sticking his leg out. 1/3 videos he ended someone's life for one of these scumbag plays.
He got beat by Adam, couldn't take it and stuck his leg out. At BEST he was going to end adams career by destroying his knee. All because he was a shitty player with shitty positioning and couldn't accept he had been beat.
Petgrave is known as an extremely dirty player in every league hes played in. Multiple bans in the echl for things like SLEW FOOTING! Not a dirty player though no? An ex coach of his says he was dirty as fuck and had no respect for himself or other players.
You are talking rubbish and have clearly never played.

You have
A) Not played hockey
B) Watched the clip with much of a brain.

I made debut in the league below the league this incident happened in when I was just 14 lol. I've played all my life. I'd prove my credentials but A) I don't need to B) more importantly my brother still plays and is a team captain and I ain't going to attach an opinion onto his name. As for watching hockey, I was a member of my teams supporters club the year I was born. I've been going to hockey since I was in a pram. My grandparents met at hockey ffs lol.
I can't see how it was an accident. Common sense tells us all that he couldn't of been trying to end adams life of course. But this player has a history of A) being dirty and B) using legs/feet!!! He clearly had shit positioning skills. Adam was about to beat him so he stuck his leg up and out to try and stop him. He barely touched the other player if he even did at all! The other player didn't even flinch, yet he supposedly 'collided' with him ffs. Absolute rubbish these people are coming out with.
