Can anyone please answer my question?

Question

Why do coaches pull their goalie?  I understand more men equals more offensive pressure, but Colorado has a better shot trying to score with their goalie in.  They were down 1 shot and ended up losing by 2.  Thy could have forced OT, instead without a goalie, any hope that they had was ended.  I just don&#x27;t get it.  Please explain how this is a good idea?

they were down by 1 and lost by 3.... 5-2 final

They pull the goalie with 2 mins left to try to tie it, if they dont score its the end of the season so they try whatever they can to win. Chicago did it sucessfully earlier today and went on to win in OT

well said, Lippsman &#xD;&#xA;in defense of avsfan135, I&#x27;m somewhat suprised he made that comment because he&#x27;s one of the more rational contributers to the form. probably just frustrated with the way Colorado boned their chances against the Hosersharks, esp in game two, against the Hosersharks.

These are two contradicting thoughts within the same sentence. Ask yourself: how could a team have a better chance of scoring with 5 men on the ice(excluding the goalie) than with 6? You even said yourself  "more men equals more offensive pressure."

When you have control of the puck, you hope that pulling your goalie and sending out an extra attacker will lead to a defensive breakdown, leaving for a higher quality shot. It&#x27;s like forcing a PP for the team down 1 goal. 6 skaters vs 5 (plus goalie), leaves one offensive player open, if they cycle the puck properly and the key is control the puck, this will lead to a higher chance of scoring then if it was 5 on 5.And yes, it does backfire, but the process is right, you can control human error with the team trailing turning over the puck.
