been thinking about that hit all day. what bothers me the most is that here's horton, who's been dreaming of being in the stanley cup playoffs since he was a kid, i'm sure, since junior hockey... he's been grinding with the bruins all season long, all playoffs, and now his season is completely over. and he'll be lucky if there's not more permanent damage to his brain. the hit was total bullshit and i'm saying, as a big canuck fan, that rome should be kicked out of the league. there is no place for that kind of dangerous total disregard for other players safety.
and on that note, the entire game 3 was gross to watch. i'm sure fighting has it's place in hockey, but from both teams yesterday there was a total lack of discipline and nothing at all championship calibre about the way it was played. where was the athleticism that makes hockey such a fantastic sport? and what kind of example are they setting for young hockey players who are idolizing them? anyway, that's my rant.
thanks for starting the thread lipps. totally agree with you.

I want to make clear I'm not complaining about the Rome suspension. I get it. I'm complaining about one standard applying to one hit and another standard applying to essentially the same hit (when the infraction is caused by a star player).
A lot of B's fans seem to think their s**t don't stink. There's a pretty hilarious thread on HF regarding the Savard bite where B's fans were saying Carcillo deserved it for sticking his fingers in Savard's mouth (sound familiar?) and were laughing about it. Suddenly when it happens to the B's it's a huge travesty.
When Rome hits Horton it's the end of the world but they forget Chara broke someone's neck (to add insult to injury, Recchi called Patches a faker), Paille committed a disgusting blindside hit on Sawada (and this was a true blindside hit unlike the hits that everybody seems to call blindside today), and Ryder committed gross interference on Jones during the TBay ECF that all Bs fans conveniently agreed was incidental.
There's a lot of Bruins fans with short memories around here and there's a lot of Habs fans making sure they never forget.

And Savard bit Carcillo with no suspension. Bruin's got away with one too. What's your point?
Smart poster over here.
No Boston fan was crying foul over Savard biting Carcillo (On another forum, countless examples were provided of Bruin fans mocking the incident and saying it was a silly bite) but complain about the Burrow's bite. No Bruin fans complained about Chara's interference hit, but all of a sudden Rome's is against the rules. Hell, they even complained about Paille's suspension even though they were closely affected by an elbow hit with the Savard incident. Julien complains about Lapierre's antics mocking the Burrows incident, then Lucic and Recchi do the same as well...we can go on for days about the hypocrisy of the Boston Bruins organization.
At the end of the day, every fan just wishes for consistency in the leagues rulings. Fans are confused, players are confused, nobody knows what is suspendable and what is not and if the same rules apply to star players as they do for scrubs like Rome.
Since Campbell stepped down, maybe we can look at this 4 game suspension to Rome as a positive and hope the league is moving the right direction. Enough with the Chara-Pacioretty incident.

Lots of ppl's childhood dreams get shattered by other people, its just the way it is. It dont deserve complete scrutiny though from the public. dont need no "Scarlett letter A" shit going around.
You cant fire a man for doing his job in being physical in a hockey game. Its like firing James Harrison from the pittsburgh steelers because he plays rough and tough. I agree the hit was late by two secs and aaron simply should of just played the puck rather then body , but since he saw a big guy coming at him full speed in a playoff game his split second decision came to the conclusion of physicality rather then puck playing. Human impulse reaction seeing a man coming full speed at you, knock him down.... in my opinion would be the first thing to mind.
If anything i've seen minor league hockey kids play worse cheap shots then the worst cheap shot i've seen in the nhl. Tell minor hockey league dads and coaches to play the game of hockey in a gentleman physical nature. Not trashy hit em up gun em down hurt em up hockey.

All people have talked about this year is headshots and concussions. In the Stanley Cup Finals, you had a scrub knock out a top player, NHL could not let him go unpunished.
It was late and caused a serious injury. I thought 2 games for sure because its Rome...who you ask? Exactly. Nobody cares knows or cares about him. If it was Bieksa or Chara, I would have been interested to see if they would have gotten suspended.
I think most of the damage was done because his head hit the ice. And even though Rome's shoulder hit Horton in the head, I don't think it was a headshot. A Torres play late in the game was an attempted head shot because he extended his elbow. Torres missed and nobody is talking about it. That's also part of the problem nowdays.
Back to Rome...on that type of play, there is nowehere else to hit him. He didn't raise the shoulder or elbow. Scott Stevens made a living off those hits. Horton was caught admiring his pass so some fault is on him but did Rome really have to make that hit? Puck was gone, player wasn't looking...can't criticize the suspension given these circumstances.
I agree with some other guys though...these elbow pads cant be so hard. Equipment needs to be looked at.
I was about to say the same thing about Scott Stevens. Same for Gary Roberts, he's considered a hero for his competitiveness, yet 95% of his hits were very late (and usually from behind).

Keep criticizing the leagues decisions because only Hab-nots fans know how long a suspension someone should receive and they were not consulted. Imagine that.
As l have clearly posted l am a HAB HATER. I don't know if I'm the biggest hab-not hater but l despise them and the crap that spews out of their fans. Will you guys ever stop? Geez you beat Boston like 50 times in a row in the playoffs and Boston takes you out one time and you cant get over it. Wiggins once called me a stalker but you guys take the cake. Get over it BOSTON beat Montreal and Boston is in the Stanley cup final. Not because of anything else but because they deserve to be there. You laugh at Tim Thomas but that man can play on my team any time. You guys are obsessed with the bruins. I think in a back handed way its the ultimate respect to the bruins... But really.....Boston would probably want nothing to do with you.
l noticed on the sports report today...Some Boston bars are refusing entry to those wearing Vancouver shirts. GREAT MOVE.
Its on and its going to get good!
Next year Habs-nots fans its only going to get worse for you when the Leafs pass you by as well. Imagine that....You will all really go off the deep end then.
Remember the only cups a Habs-not fan will see from now on is in the rear view mirror of their past. 17 playoffs and counting!

SURPRISE SURPRISE Canuck fans, turns out that it was FUKKNUTS BRIAN(the joke) BURKIEEEEEEEEEEE that told Murphy to suspend Rome for 4 games. I knew all along that it was the leafs fault and now there is confirmation on this. What a garage league haha run by the leafs...We all know how burkieee feels about the great city of Vancouver. They FIRED his ass and now he exacted revenge. The compensation from the Boston camp is not known at this time.
