Is the rumored name for the new franchise

I would have just preferred Knights and drop the Black part. But as I understand it, it's a nod to Army.

I will SAY it AGAIN!!! ACES!!! ACES!!! ACES!!! Las Vegas Aces just kinds of "rolls of the tongue" AND ties into fighter pilot "aces" at Nellis AFB

and even thought I am an NHL fan living in Las Vegas I agree 100% with benhogan76. STUPID idea that will be a re-run of the Phoenix Coyotes. Las Vegas has proved in the past it is just NOT a "hockey city" with the IHL Thunder and ECHL Wranglers 

Actually I think they should make the name something more realistic.

But don't forget that the NHL couldn't care less about the amount of people that comes to games now.  It's all about the TV contracts and there are a ton of high prices ones out west. 

The bid is run by a company named Black Knight Sports and Entertainment, the same name as his financial services company. Foley graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Are they going to use Quebec City as a relocation spot instead? Or is Quebec City the fall back if Vegas cant come up with the money? Or will they still entertain Quebec City but at a later date? 

Over/under on the number of years before this team folds or moves?? 

Vegas Fix would be an awesome name....   maybe if they get an NBA team since everyone in the world (at least in the NBA Forum) believes the league is fixed

THAT is what former mayor Oscar Goodman and the rest of the town  REALLY wants. there is an EXCELLENT basketball culture in Las Vegas with UNLV and the NBA summer league which is VERY successful

I've been covering the whole process for SinBin.Vegas and was told by the organization that they'll go by Knights. Black Knights will be its full name, but Knights will be on the jersey and other gear. I'm sure the official logo will have the full name on it. Foley knows Las Vegas Black Knights is a mouthful, so he understands the backlash. However, no one in town, or even in the league will call them the Black Knights. They'll be referred to as the Knights.

Also, I think you guys are underrated this city as a sports town. They will support any local pro team. I know LRR has his doubts, but I talk to sports fans everyday and they all seem to be excited for the announcement. Foley wil be a dedicated owner that wants to compete and it will keep the fans interested. Either way I'm super excited, got to see them install the boards yesterday at the T-Mobile Arena. Place is an attraction in itself. LRR we'll have to catch a game sometime.

JRP, but what about all the other minor league teams that have folded up and moved on because of lack of support ?  You think just because it's a pro team that will all change once the honeymoon is over ?

all well and good, JRP BUT Lippsman's point is well taken. IHL Thunder and ECHL Wranglers were BOTH failures. the Knights will do well early on because of the "new" factor but I fear it will end up a re-run of Phoenix. btw Knights name is "OK" and better than another "cowboy" name tie in (because of National Final Rodeo) but as stated there is a LOT of logic behind Aces

meanwhile Bettman and the NHL board "dithering" over an expansion team in Ville de Quebec, which REALLY deserves a team, means an odd number of team between East and West

Fellas, I agree that there are some major question marks. We can agree it's a gamble for any pro sport to come to Vegas. Minus the NFL. However, there are many, many, many hockey fans in Las Vegas. And just because the poorly planned Wranglers folded doesn't mean it's a good barometer for hockey here. Also, don't downplay minor league vs major league... Las Vegas likes pro sports, not minor league. Even UNLV MBB have struggled in popularity over the past ten+ years. However, with a pro team the level of competition will keep the public interested.

There is a small town kinda feel here in Vegas, and I truly believe they will follow any local pro team. Plus Foley is obsessed with being competitive so I think locals will catch on quick.

Lastly, I agree again with you guys that there will be a honeymoon period of 3-5 years. If they can make it out of that transitional period unscathed they'll be fine. By unscathed I mean 11 win seasons, and poor drafting. Very good chance both happen, but we will see. Great conversation guys.

Black Knights keeps coming up because the Vegas expansion bid is run by a company called Black Knight Sports and Entertainment. Black knights is pretty cool, but ace of spades would be better. Also you guys should go with sin city as opposed to Las Vegas. Either way, this is gonna be sweet.
