These silly theories and looking for things that simply are not there.Saints have been blowing teams away because they are a good football team. The Lions were desperate to win yesterday. Win and they are away to New York/Dallas and they would fancy their chances and have momentum going into the playoffs. Lose and its off to to a 13-3 team on fire and a serious dent to the confidence.

Don't over think (that is what you are doing) the facts are simple. Detroit couldn't beat a team playing backups with nothing to play for. They now have to go on the road to the hottest team in football. People are focusing way to much a last year, which has nothing whatsoever got to do with this year. The Saints will use last year as motivation, that's the only stat you have to worry about from last year. The Lions have already been beaten by the Saints and this is the last place they would have wanted to go (bar Green bay)..

The problem for Detroit is that they are far too one dimensional. They don't have a rushing game, so the Saints can afford to drop extra players back in coverage. Detroit is 26th against the rush and I see NO running more then expected. If the run gets going how can they stop Brees? They can't. New Orleans is a FAR better football team then Detroit. That is the only stat that matters. So far this season anytime Detroit has faced top ranked opposition it hasn't covered the spread. The line is set this high to reel in the Lions Backers and it seems many on this site has fallen for the Line.

Fade Detroit in a dome against a top team always! If you don't have balance on offense against the top teams you get exposed (as has been proven)..This will be Detroit playing catchup and Stafford making mistakes. Saints will win by more then 14 this time...

Good football teams don't lose must win games against their biggest rivals playing backups! This is the point that is just not registering with you.

If they win they have a legitimate shot at beating the Giants and then who knows. They haven't beaten (or covered the spread) against the elite teams in the NFC. Green Bay, San Francisco, New Orleans. They couldn't get it done last week when they badly needed to and know you expect a team who hasn't shown any kind of winning mentality against the top teams to suddenly turn it on!

The public preception that Detroit is not a very good team is spot on and I am quite sure will cost you again. There is no hidden agenda or secret here. Even if Detroit covers, New Orleans was the correct play pre game based on Factual Evidence...

    1) New Orleans has covered the spread in every home game this season..
    2) Detroit has failed to cover the spread against the better teams this season....

To bet against New Orleans (even if you are lucky enough to get a back door cover) is the incorrect play and your reasons for playing it are either invalid of incorrect...Detroit is too one demensional on offence and too atrocious on defense to keep this close..

Wait, aren't you the same tool who went on and on and on about how the Saints at 3 to 1 or whatever it is to win the Superbowl was the bet of the season?  The FACT is, the Saints are going to beat Detroit - but they won't beat SF and Green Bay.  Sorry, if you'd followed the Saints all year (it is clear you haven't) you'd KNOW the Saints aren't that great on the road.  Losses to the Rams and Bucs and close calls against the Panthers and Falcons prove that.  So stop trying to come across like you know everything.  You don't.

Have fun losing your three grand.

Hey Moron. I didn't say it was the bet of the season..+330 bets are not the bet of the season...

I will take my chances on a team that hasn't lost a game (even a road game) since October. Do you think Green Bay had a good road record before they got hot last year!? Thats the problems with fools like you. You don't know your arse from your elbow.....

Staying away... Maybe the O/U Den can't score & PIT now w/o Mendenhall & possibly Ryan Clark on D. This will be like PIT @ CLE last Sun. 13-9  or something like that .

I took DET +10.5 & the Over, will bet it again if spread goes up !

Recommend waiting on DEN line  -   GL

The only way Lions are able to beat NO is to outscore them, so as I said before the best bet here is over 58.5. I don't like playing spread against Brees, ML, or even tease the points against Brees - this is looking like his season and I think that New Orleans will win the NFC. And they will meet Brady in the Superbowl and we'll see what will happen then, but I think that the Saints are the best team in the league right now and the only tough game will be against San Francisco, because the only team that outscored Drew this year was the Packers in the first round - then Drew played excellent, but Rogers and his receivers were a little better. So if you look at that stats - how many teams can outscore the Saints in a shootout? Probably the Packers and the Patriots - no other team can keep on scoring along when Brees is on fire. So I think that playing the Lions ML or spread is simply dangerous. And about Tebow beating the Steelers - hope you're kidding, right? No chance in hell that rushing clown scores more than 2 times against that d-fense. He couldn't score more than 1 time vs the Chiefs in one of the most important games of his career and you're saying he'll beat Big Ben & co? Come on, man, get serious, we're talking real money here, not Skittles.

Very good post Snake and Lions are on an OFFENSIVE roll right now but..............PTB does have a point here. LIONS do have the better defense and should be able to keep it close. TT has no chance against Steeler D, NONE

When you start talking about the Saints winning 8 in a row ATS at home, you are right, winning 9-0  is a far stretch and it has to end sometime... HOWEVER if you bet at the beginning of the season that the saints would end up 8-0 at home ATS, your odds would have been pretty good on your money... but each week, it is a new game in and of itself... it is a 50/50 shot (if you take out the possibility of a push)... you can’t look at it statistically as  it being hard to go 9-0 because that doesn’t matter in this equation…. The only thing about them going 8-0 at home is to show that they can do it.... on roulette, the wheel could land black 15 times in a row... and the odds of it landing black for a 16th time is still 42.1% for that single spin.... here they will cover, lose, or push... no matter the outcome, the previous outcomes will not have had any bearing on it... Take a statistics class, Roulette and craps are the professors’ favorite examples when talking about probabilities.

Reverse the situation, if the saints were 0-8 ATS at home, would many people be saying bet on the saints cuz they have to win sometime?   No everyone would be saying stay away from them…. In this case, it is hard to say to bet them because it is a lot of pts… but statistically speaking, I believe the only logical play here is to pick the saints at home.

Or stay away from this game.... I havent decided if I will play it or not... and probably wont until later on this week because it is so many pts in a pro game in the playoffs.... Staying away might be the best play.... but picking the Lions because the Saints have to lose ATS sometime is not a smart play at all.

The Lions lost a high scoring game to the Packers but dont take anything away from Matt Flynn who is the best back up qb in football imo . The guy almost beat the Patriots last season on Sunday night losing by 3............Flynn threw 6 td passes in one game, something Rodgers has not done................

That game was a tune up for the Lions as they know they will be in a shootout & we should see some fireworks in New Orleans.............I knew the Falcons didnt want to play the Saints again but didnt think it would happen like this................

The Saints are clicking on all cylinders scoring over 40 points in their last 3 games of the season & will be looking to advance into the 2nd round.................

Will have a play on Sunday if the Lions come through for me..............

    Recommended plays:

    Texans -3 (+100)

    Broncos +7.5 (-110)

Wow. You learned nothing going against the Saints with Atlanta? Remember how certain you were Atlanta was going to cover, maybe even win? They didn't even cover your teaser for gosh sakes! Here, you're saying you won't be surprised if Lions win SU! You said the exact same thing about Atlanta!!!!
Let me just say, I will be more than surprised if Det even covers the spread. In fact, I will probably drop dead of shock if they don't get blown out!

Anyway, I'm opposite you on all three of your picks.
I like NO at home in Prime Time where they DOMINATE! You can look back at my arguments I made for picking NO against Atl on your thread and I'll just say ditto here, again.
KEY:  NO, AT HOME, ON PRIME TIME!  That's all you need to know.

I will fade Hou who has proven to me they have a staff of idiots who game plan and play call like morons based on what I saw them do vs Car, @ Indy, and then home against Ten. They had a legit shot at playing for #2 seed which is HUGE for that team, and all they had to do was beat a couple of cellar-dwellers on their upcoming schedule. Instead of playing to win, they played not to lose, which in my opinion is losing football. They blew their chance to beat Car at home, then played extremely unimaginative offensive FB @ Indy with run, run, pass and run, run, run play calling. Then, after their chances for #2 seed were shot to hell and the only intelligent motivation for their final reg season game would have been to rest up and get ready for the wild card round, what did they do? The opposite! They succeeded in getting Yates a separated shoulder, and played a hard game against a motivated Ten team which surely has taken a physical toll on the team. This Houston team is the very epitome of stupidity. They absolutely deserve to lose to Cin and I believe they will, unless magically their mentally deficient brain trust of idiot play callers and game planners suddenly become geniuses overnight, which I highly doubt.

Last, Den at home vs Detroit? LOL. This game is a mismatch, even if Big Ben is on one leg. Tebow has been stinking it up, now he's facing a very good defense. I think it's quite possible that the Pit defense will score more than the Den offense via pick 6 and/or fumble recovery for TD. I'm pretty sure the Pit offense should also be good for at least a TD or 2. I'm at a complete loss to see how Den is going to score at all. They were completely exposed as frauds by NE, then got a shellacking by a terrible Buf team (seriously? BUFFALO!), then were held to THREE POINTS by KC AT HOME in a MUST WIN game to secure the division! Lucky for them, SD played spoiler and knocked off Oak...  They have no chance on Sunday.

    Anyway, as always....BOL

Well, first of all, I agree with your conclusion to pick the Saints at home.
The entire spin on statistics and probabilities I think is completely irrelevant because the Saints are not a roulette wheel or a craps table. They are a very good team with an absolutely outstanding QB and very good supporting cast, who play especially inspired at home. Also, their home happens to be a dome where sound is reverberated and seemingly amplified, and unfortunately for the road team, that sound and noise occurs most when the away team's offense is trying to work....very bad news for the road team. It's an unfair advantage for the home team! If you want to use a roulette wheel as some kind of pertinent example, it would then have to be modified to a RIGGED roulette wheel where the advantage is extreme for the home team.
Take a good team, put them at home where they play their best, make that home venue a huge advantage in terms of the 12th man factor....and what you have is a team that pretty much kicks ass at home all year. Add to that mix that they UP their play another notch or two when they are playing on Prime Time with the whole world watching, and then you have blowout after Prime Time blowout as well.
Handicapping is not like playing craps or roulette. It's taking advantage of known factors and applying them when the situation warrants. There are no probabilities to calculate. The smart move is go WITH the advantage, and AVOID the disadvantage!
