Eight-Team XFL Competitor Plans to Launch in February 2019

Charlie Ebersol, the son of longtime NBC Sports executive Dick Ebersol and director of the 30 for 30 documentary about the original XFL his father created with WWE’s Vince McMahon, announced Tuesday that he plans to launch a football league next February.

The league is called the Alliance of American Football and will feature eight 50-man teams playing a 10-game schedule that begins on February 9, the Saturday after next year’s Super Bowl.

The league is hoping to draw talent from the wealth of high-level college players who don’t make the NFL.

It promises a new kind of broadcast, wrapping up games in two-and-a-half hours and without TV timeouts.

So why is this going to be any different than the first failure? 

The Alliance of American Football league will launch in 2019 ..and is different than McMahon’s new XFL....  McMahon's revived XFL would launch in 2020 with eight teams of 40 players playing a 10-game schedule.

Both new league's will make changes to make the game less dull..

Football fans are growing tired of unpatriotic prima donna athletes..so there is a market for new football.

Side note :President Trump, a WWE Hall of Famer, is also a longtime friend of Vince McMahon...

The Alliance of American Football league founder Charlie Ebersol joined explain how the AAF will transform its game to improve the experience for fans.

For example, we’re getting rid of the kickoff for two reasons.

One, it’s regularly considered one of the most dangerous plays in professional football. But the second reason is, if you look at almost any study of fans, they say the most boring play in a game is a kickoff. The least amount of stuff happens, it’s least likely to produce something interesting. So we’re getting rid of the kickoff, we’re going to start with the ball on the 25.

Ebersol continued : Obviously, if you get rid of the kickoff, you have to get rid of the onside kick. So what we’re doing… if you want to go for the equivalent of the onside kick, we will give you your ball on your own 35 and you’ll be facing 4th-and-10.

 If you convert, you keep going. If you don’t, you’re giving the ball back to someone knocking on your own red zone.

We’re getting rid of the extra point. We want people to play on the field, so they’re going to have to go for two points.

and…. We’re going to take the play clock down to 30 seconds, so it reflects what’s happening in the game already. Most NFL offenses are getting to the line in 17, 20 seconds.............

Ebersol has brought in retired Indianapolis Colts General Manager  Bill Polian to help oversee the league, with former Pittsburgh Steelers  Troy Polamalu doing the same for the player side of the new venture and former USC star J.K. McKay for the team side.

Adding to the league's growing star power are Hines Ward,Justin Tuckas as league advisors.

Notable edge that the AAF has on the XFL is that the league already has a TV deal already lined up, with the season opener and championship game on CBS and weekly games on the CBS Sports Network; the remaining games being streamed via the AAF app.

Nobody wants to watch D League Football ....Doubt it lasts a full season

It may not last a year ,,but the 1.6 million people that tuned off the NFL last year (including myself) will watch to get them started ..

They sure have a better chance of catching hold and being competitive than they were 17 years ago..do to the fact that there wasn't any disrespectful millionaire kneeler's back then..

Sporting News has learned several prominent former NFL head coaches are potential targets to join the eight-team upstart spring league

 A handful of coaches who already appear to be potential candidates. The biggest names on the list include Steve Spurrier, Mike Singletary and Jeff Fisher. He also listed Rick Neuheisel, Rob Ryan, Mike Martz, Pepper Johnson and Jim Fassel as other candidates.

 

... Its the brain injuries , and the rules being changed so tackling has to be polite and kind after the wr catches the ball ...Subjective calls that favor the teams the Nfl wants to win..

That part of the verse of national anthem of the United States of America...in The Star-Spangled Banner does not celebrate slavery ..

hireling..... refers to the Hessian Germans the British hired to fight for the Crown during the Revolutionary War.

..and slave.......... refers to the black militia units enlisted by the British to divide the colonies and fight against the American patriots in the war...they like the Hessian's were the enemy..

 Why shouldn't the Americans want to put them in the gloom of their grave ?  These black slaves were trying to kill them..

The British offered freedom to any slave who ran away to join British forces..

Throughout the war, the British repeatedly offered freedom to those slaves who would join their side.

Then the British government, having promised emancipation to all former slaves who fought for it, concluded a peace treaty ending the war. The treaty said, in article 7,:   that the British were to leave the United States "without ... carrying away any (Blacks)".

No one is going to watch the xfl or whatever other bs league they're coming out with.

Well, you may be right ...nevertheless we will not know for another 11months, if that's what happens..

Will there be lines for these games? If the answer is yes, then people will watch, myself included.

Anytime there's the thrill of victory and agony of defeat there will be a line on it..

Vince McMahon say's the new resurrected XFL,... players with criminal records will not be welcome.

“People don’t want social and political issues coming into play when they are trying to be entertained,” McMahon told ESPN. “We want someone who wants to take a knee to do their version of that on their personal time.”

Vince McMahon wants to see all of his players stand and salute the flag during the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

When we come onto the field, we’re here to play football. That’s everyone’s job.”
