Another blowout turns into a coinflip

This is what I've been saying... they manufacture close games out of anything.

Eagles about to go up 3 scores and it's a TD called back for a hold. Then they DON'T call an obvious PI in the end zone the very next play.

The funny thing is you'd swear it's not just the refs but the players too. Because even then they were still in Elliot range. And hurts takes not one, but two sacks in a row. The second one he steps right towards the defender.

Probably depended on what time of day or day of the week you bet as to whether or not you covered but anyway, just in case you think there's any point in 'handicapping' games any more... there isn't. It's designed to come down to the final drive and if you don't believe me keep track of how many times you have to sweat the last 2 minutes. So don't bother reviewing stats or game film. It's probably just gonna be a coin flip situation late on anyway. Prevent defense and either a soft TD given up or the QB gets picked off. You need a really good defense or a really bad offense to actually get a turnover on downs these days, especially with the refs chomping at the bit to call a roughing or a PI if it will make the game a little closer and thus more exciting.

Need to keep everyone watching ads right up to the very end of the game.

3 of the 4 primetime games so far came down to the final drive. Dallas NYG was a 40-0 blowout but i suppose if you had the total you had to sweat  that as it was 44.5, usually there's a garbage time TD in that situation.

But hey, it's all entertainment, right? Except now you can't have any sports related broadcast without lines being mentioned and picks flashed on screen. Stupid Kevin Hart ads every two minutes telling you to bet parlays like a bookie's wet dream.

The more mainstream gambling has gotten, the worse the games have gotten for this 'never decided til the end' crap.

And I'm glad I don't have kids because I don't know how I'd ever be able to get my son into sports without also exposing him to gambling? I mean it must be impossible to do that now. These companies can't wait to get their claws into young men as soon as they are of age to bet they'll be trying to tempt them to deposit. Where I live they actually banned the ads to where they can't come on til 9.30 or 10 pm which is at least something.

I never really thought about how it will impact my kids since they’re babies. Wonder what the gambling landscape will look like in 20 years 

I try to stay away from all prime time games,sometimes it seems like some shady things happen in those games.

I think a lot of people in the US aren't thinking about it, and they fkin should be. Where I live now gambling on sports has been legal much longer, and I have friends working in the industry. The bookie companies are absolutely ruthless with the tactics they use to target problem gamblers and rinse them for every penny. You think they don't have algorithms set up to monitor their customers habits? That they don't know when you get paid?

The advertising is nuts that's why I am glad it is being clamped down on. Paddy Power (biggest UK/Ireland bookie company) ad campaigns are very clever, high end production. Look up an ad for Ladbrokes called 'The Ladbrokes Life' they try to glamorize it like this group of young men going to the pub to gamble are characters out of a Guy Ritchie film.

And they have TONS of money to spend on advertising, because they don't actually provide a product. There's nothing to build, no materials to buy, no services other than basic cashier type stuff and some IT. The sports leagues and TV networks provide the stuff they make money on, and the addicts hand over their money willingly.

I don't believe gambling should be illegal but the advertising should be as it absolutely targets young people (just like smoking ads did, grab em young, and you have em hooked for life). Young men especially are easy to get roped into risky behaviour that's why they recruit for the military same age as you can bet - 18.

We are going to face a huge unprecedented wave of gambling addicts very soon. I mean every single person is literally walking around with a casino in their pocket these days. What ads do you get when you watch youtube now?

 America still has a very libertarian attitude, 'Don't tread on me', where many people are like, 'If you don't want to gamble, don't gamble, simple as that.' 

But it's not as simple as that. It's proven that gambling addiction is genetic and these companies all want to be the one who hooks the most addicts, that's all they want to do.

It was nuts at the KC game that MGM was EVERYWHERE inside the building. Yet MO still bans legal gambling. Not for long with the entirety of Arrowhead shilling for it. I think it is dumb MO has legal weed and KS has legal gambling. I can’t do my live bets in MO, which sucks.

Another thing people haven't seen yet is how they will actually limit or ban people who win too much.

It happens a lot here as horse racing is WAY more popular than in the US (and much higher quality, more variety in the tracks, there's flat and jumps, it's just way better and is televised every Saturday and there are festivals like Cheltenham that everyone gets really into)

But with horse racing, there are a lot more strokes pulled (look up the recently deceased Barney Curley for an example, the Yellow Sam coup is my favourite thing ever). Because you can hurt the bookie a lot worse with a 50/1 shot then with a spread bet on the NFL

If you hit some long shot winners the bookie might decide you have inside knowledge and limit you to 10 cent bets. Happened to plenty people I know. Some actually did have connections to owners and trainers of horses but some didn't. My uncle owns a stake in some horses, he has to drive up to Northern Ireland to get a bet on, they won't take his bets in any bookie near his hometown.

Now they're starting to refuse to pay out on things pending 'affordability checks' or money laundering protocol.Which only happen when you win, they want your bank statements to make sure you can afford to lose. But they never check when you lose, only when you win over 2k.

And most importantly, you will NOT get a mortgage at any bank here if you have a single gambling transaction on your bank account in the last 2 years. Not even for 10 bucks.

From the games being fixed to be coinflips to the dirty tricks the bookies pull it's a very dangerous landscape indeed.

Look at every ad on now, what are they promoting: parlays. Because every gambler loves looking at the possible payout of some little 20 dollar ten teamer.

But they never hit. Even if you do 3 teams, the one always lets you down. Often the biggest favorite of the lot!

One day a few years ago I collected all the parlay tickets from the self service kiosk I had shoved in a drawer, going back almost 2 years. None of them were over 20 bucks, in fact most were between id say 5 and 15 or 16. I stopped counting how much there was in losing stakes after a couple grand. They add up. And of course SO many of them lost by one team.

I always say parlay players are a bookie's wet dream and the ads back that up. Any time a betting company is pushing anything it's not for your benefit, it's for theirs.

Now they're paying out early on teams that go up 14 points in NFL or 2 goals in soccer over here.

A few years ago they paid out midseason on Man City to win the PL, way before it was mathematically impossible for any other team to win it. They actually got caught out one year, paid out all futures on I think Liverpool or Man United to win the Premier League midseason and then they didn't win it in the end.

But the reason they came up with this practise in the first place is because if you win your bet at seasons end, you might actually withdraw the cash. If there's still games to bet on, you probably keep playing with it and they get it all back before the season is over.

With online gambling you don't win until you actually withdraw the cash no matter how many winning bets you place. And they all have a button now where you can cancel your withdrawal so if you deposit 550 and win 500, and then think, okay, I'll take my 550 back out in a withdrawal and just play with the bookie's money... and then lose your winnings in a few hours, you can give the bookie another chance at fleecing you for that 550 too.

And that is just through Week 9!  Those are cold, hard facts that refute this baseless conspiracy theory bullshxt.

Anybody who still believes this nonsense should always bet the dogs in any of these nationally televised night games because they "know" (LOL) that crooked refs will keep the games close.  Good luck with that.

For the record, Thursday night games have been closer than Monday night games.  Going back to the 2020 season, MNF had 23 games with a margin of 14+ points.  TNF only had 15.

Maybe it's harder to skillfully execute on short rest.

Kids rant here, sorry 

A few of my kids play softball, started 8u then 10u and the tryouts after went kind of fudged.  It happened mid-August right after travel ended, maybe even that night if I remember correctly.  Who doesn't Vaca then?   We put off camping to be able to travel softball and the coach plays his kid who sucks at pitching but its 10u right?

10u is huge step up from 8u, and in different sports it's the way it is.  Some kids are bigger and better at that age, the hit puberty earlier.

After 10u your kid needs talent.

So my point is that YES its starts at a very young age and sometimes/ most times the parents are living out their youth through the kids

 Bingo! It's the epitome of having blinders on. Remember the most recent game that landed on the spread/total but completely ignoring the games that aren't even close. Hell the lions/chiefs opener never really had a chance at going over. If a total goes under or over by 10+ I'd say that's a fairly easy win. How about any Cowboys backers Sun night? They didn't sweat anything from opening kick basically.

No I'm absolutely fine. If you haven't followed my posts I actually don't bet on the NFL this season at all because of the way it's gone but I still post what plays I like just for fun. I posted the Over on the Vikings/Eagles and am 3-1 on the NFL plays I posted so far.

You're probably just not used to seeing people post more than a few monosyllabic grunts on here, that's all.

If it seems I'm ranting it's just because I'm stating things for the benefit of those that may not see how absolutely fkd the whole rigamarole really is now. Things that took me time to realize but became super obvious, and once betting became mainstream it got even worse. It's not because I'm upset, it's because I know there is a huge wave of new, young bettors and it's to give them a broader view of what is going on and what will happen - basically there's very little upside to being a sports bettor any more unless you are very shrewd and not bet the way most people do (lots of games all week, week in week out, chase losses, get greedy when you hit, etc).

If you're okay with betting coinflips, cool. My point is: if you are not, betting on NFL football will be stressful and annoying and not fun. I'm sure there are some people out there who love it when their 3 TD lead evaporates in the 2nd half and they get backdoored by a meaningless TD. Oh, the thrill of it all. I mean if it doesn't bother you at all to lose your hard earned on coin flips that shouldn't be coin flips but are manufactured to be so, then that's awesome and you're already like a Zen master you don't need to listen to my horseshit then at all. That's the only way to be: embrace the prevent defense, praise the coaches who hate points and would rather get stuffed on 4th and 1, cheer when your kicker misses a PAT and then the next time they go for 2 and don't get it and now your 2 TDs only got you 12 points. It all evens out long term, right? Maybe it does.

I do hate the gambling industry because they are endangering young men with all these ads. I had a friend, a neighbour of mine with a wife and kids who got into trouble with debt to credit cards and loan sharks due to gambling losses and 4 years ago threw himself in front of a train. There was no casket at his wake or funeral because the only way they could collect his remains was with a bucket. And he never told me or reached out, he hid it all. I don't even know what he bet on, it wasn't the NFL maybe horses or soccer since we are in Europe.

I consider myself lucky I never got into any debt even when I lived in the US and you could only bet on credit with illegal street bookies I always covered any losses within a week or 2 but not everyone can control it. The stuff I'm talking about is for anyone struggling I'm saying the games are BS to bet on now, because they are. I still like to try cap games I don't like really caring about if they win any more, and honestly think you can only cap to a point when it's all coin flipa and con jobs now to keep games close.
