ST LOUIS RAMS (+3) @ BUFFALO BILLS
Though its a safe bet that most weekend prognosticators will quickly skip over this game as they peruse the board for this Sunday and opt for a more appealing match up, I submit that that could be a costly mistake. While I wholeheartedly agree that this one is anything but sexy, not to mention being played in the graveyard of NFL cities, it does offer a better than average opportunity in terms of making some $$. If you're still reading......consider yourself lucky because here comes the good stuff......
The Bills offensive line has been so decimated by injuries that they will have two lineman starting at the same time that have never started a snap in the NFL. Add to that fact that one of them, David Snow, an undrafted rookie, might take over at Center. Though its possible that G Kraig Urbik will slide over and play Center, the fact remains that you'll have two first time starters (trying to) protect Fitzpatrick that have a combined 3 years of NFL experience against a Rams front 4 that have 13 sacks this season. Go to ESPN and click on Depth Chart for the Bills....The ONLY offensive lineman currently capable of filing in for the next lineman to go down for Buffalo is Tom Welch (2 yrs experience) and thus practice squad rookie Keith Williams was brought up this week and has never played a snap in the NFL.
Another consideration here is that go-to, stud receiver Stevie Johnson was listed as Questionable and even if he goes on Sunday, which many suspect he will, its likely he will not be 100% nursing a sore hammy. Take it for what its worth.
Now am I dismissing the fact that St Louis is an indoor dome team that likes to be shielded from the elements of the harsh winter conditions that the Buffalo Bills have grown accustomed to playing in all these years. No, I most certainly am not. Though I recognize there is something to consider there, I simply choose to put more credence in the fact that this is a team very much in a fight for a final playoff spot with 4 games remaining (just like the Bills I might add) and I believe that Jeff Fisher will have this team ready to compete on Sunday. But I see this match up being defined by what happens on the line of scrimmage. I've watched enough football to know what happens when you start a rookie Center (for the very first time) in the NFL and honestly I expect the Rams to be timing/jumping the snap counts (and the the Bills false starting) for the better part of the afternoon.
Given the above situation, confirmed and updated as of this afternoon, you have to ask yourself one question.......will the Buffalo Bill's offensive line hold up for a couple of hours against the Defense that just gave the 49ers and the Golden Boy Colin Kaepernick fits all last week? My answer.............................possible but unlikely.
I"ll close with this in terms of the Rams chances (getting 3 points mind you) in Buffalo.....They've played the 49ers, a team that many believe is one of the top 4 best teams in the NFL, twice this year and both times have not lost. What will they do to a team whose offensive line will be held together by Elmer's glue....well, we'll just have to wait and see.....
