The Sixers fall to a 3-1 deficit , with Embiid returning last game and as I predicted throwing a wrench in their offense in game 4. Unfortunately for Boston , many are already saying this series is over and done with. Is there reason to believe Sixers could avoid elimination and play their best game tonight, especially on the offensive end ? I believe there is.
For one... they got absolutely routed at home last game and 3 of the 4 games have been won by Boston pretty decisively.
That said, time & time again Philly has shown resiliency despite injuries & coach Nick Nurse who has plenty of playoff experience himself previously with the Raptors ( let's not forget he led Toronto to an NBA Championship in 2019-- post Kawhi Leonard), is not about to let this team quit . He has extensive experience in high pressure playoff situations , is highly regarded for innovative defensive strategies, particularly off a loss after getting embarrassed like they did last game, and he relies heavily on starters... hence how important it was for Embiid to get a game under his belt and more practice time leading to game 5.
Nick Nurse has a 28-21 playoff record and after being bounced early in the play-in tournament last year... let's not count out the likes of Tyrese Maxey, Paul George and Joel Embiid --- I think that would be a big mistake and there is a high probability of an upset this evening.
Food for thought: Nurse has never lost a playoff series in which the series started 1-1 or better thru 2 playoff games. This series started 1-1. He is 21-9 in games 3 to 7 of playoff series. Don't expect any less than Philly's best effort tonight, and guys like rookie VJ Edgecombe & veteran Kelly Oubre, to have a huge bounceback .
One other note is Drummond is available tonight after injuring his hip in game 4 and exiting early, which will be huge in Sixers winning the battle of the boards and second-chance opportunities.
With Embiid's conditioning improving, getting re-integrated back into the offense and better "Maximizing" Tyrese Maxey, Sixers play their hearts out this evening, with high likelihood of an upset tonight.
