Regression for NY in this series??

Props to the Knicks for playing out of their minds this post season. 2 sweeps vs Philly & Cle and absolute domination in the 3 series closeout wins all on the road.  Some things I'm noticing as I look to make some plays on this series...

Players are shooting much better than they did in the regular season...

Knicks Opponent's rankings in '26 playoffs out of 16 teams(not including reg season)...

Points allowed - Atl - 15, Philly - 13, Cle - 9

FG% allowed - Atl - 16, Philly - 12, Cle - 11

3P% allowed - Atl - 14, Philly - 12, Cle - 13

San Antonio Spurs Stats this postseason...

6th in points allowed

1st in FG% allowed

3rd in 3P% allowed

3rd in points scored

4th in FG%

4th in 3P%

Were the Knicks opponents weak teams these playoffs because the Knicks were so good, or because ATL, Philly, CLE played like shit? Either way, this Spurs team is going to be much harder to handle than the 3 easy series in the East.  I have to assume the Knicks players and stats will come back down to Earth during this series.  Wemby owned Chet in the WCFs and Castle has been playing great defense against some of the best guards in the league this season.  That should carry over to the Finals.  Hopefully we get no major injuries and the officiating doesn't decide games.  Go Spurs!

The Knicks are a much better basketball team than they were 2 months ago so those regular season numbers aren't as meaningful. Their offense is just clicking at the right time and their defensive rotations have improved.

Regression is meaningless at this point. Better team wins. If you believe they are then so be it. Regression is about not dominating and covering big numbers or not continuing to win every game.

Specifically to this situation, you know those fools are smellin themselves from not losing, and will get punched in the face eventually. If knicks win its probably in 7.

Regress like when they played ATL and everybody in NY was about to have a stroke.  Spurs could have swept all 3 teams the Knicks faced

Knicks DID come back down to Earth in Game 1(although Shamet still shot 50% from 3!).  

Starters went 28 of 69(40%) & 5 of 20 from 3 (25%)

Team went FG 41% and 3P 31%

So the regression DID happen, but Spurs shot worse than the Knicks!  

I think SA is going to force Hart to hit 3's tonight, maybe even Kat also.  Zig-Zag finals?  Go Spurs!

Interesting- Knicks are on fire , Spurs usually respond well to a lose. My money is on them tonight - Spurs lose , it’s over .

As predicted, the Knicks aren't having as easy a time with their offense as they did when they ripped through the East playoffs. All players are shooting worse than they did in the Eastern playoffs and the team in general is far less efficient than we saw in their East postseason stats as you'll see here...

Anyone who has watched sports over the years knows that fortunes can change, momentum can shift, and teams can have unexplained turnarounds at anytime...good or bad.  Sure seems like there is a lot of pressure on the Knicks to win tonight because if they don't, SA gets home court advantage back and the momentum shifts in their favor. Going to be hard to see them losing a 3rd game at home in game 5 also. There have been at least 5 other NBA Finals where teams came back to win after going down 0-2. Add in the fact that Wemby fucked up the end of game 2, which may have been a win if they handled their shit with 8 seconds left, and the Spurs could be UP 2-1.  Knicks may have peaked a little early in the playoffs or the East competition just wasn't up to par with the West.  I don't even think the Spurs have had a 'great' game yet, which we could see in game 4 or 5. Knicks have been playing so well throughout the playoffs, people are having a hard time imagining them having a bad game...it could easily happen tonight! Go Spurs!

I'm glad there are Spurs backers who believe the Knicks have peaked and are regressing, as it gives me a better price on the Knicks to kick some ass tonight.
