So be honest and say how much you've won or lost ... don't lie about it.

who cud possibly keep track of how much theyve lost???...its like asking sumone how much money theyve spent in their life-time
suffice it to say the general consensus is that sumwhere north of 95% of all that gamble on sports are in the negative at the end of the week/month/year.....so dont expect too many answers claiming success if you want honesty...most do it to get their kicks obviously and,as we all know, its an addiction that is hard to drop.
a better question wud be-how many are losing due to poor money management/judgement as opposed to bad picking??

as for me,i most definitely cant win on my own...but wen i have the discipline to follow only a few select guys here i find i can see profit consistently...but then that profit is too much fun to play with again and is used on silly indulgent bets sumtimes

Agree with Mel, it's all about money management. But once you lose a bet, you just can't help to find a game to chase it back, then you will either lucky to get it back or lose more....

Do you believe poor judgement is the reason for the losses?
Could it be that "gambling responsibly" as advocated by the bookmaker themselves is simply a folklore that doesn't exist?

They don't need to gamble "responsibly' to make money so why the gambler has to? And who says an average human being can really gamble responsibly?
It sounds more like a myth to me ... no one can gamble responsibly and no one can beat a system that is by nature designed to beat him instead and the fact is it has been doing it very well.

well, its not entirely true to say that "no-one" can beat a system that is designed to beat him...there are very few but it can be done, sum are making millions remember.very very few but just to show its not impossible...and yes it takes almost inhuman doses of discipline, patience and also great deal of time and analysis, all of which is clearly beyond the average gambler who also doesnt want the "fun" aspect of it to be taken away by doing it in that manner.
but the answer is most definitely yes, chasing, making wild parlays and stupid heavy favourite bets and making horrible, impulsive money management decisions is the bane of most of us here im quite certain........general bad picking doent help but even a blind squirrel can hit sumwere round 50% on spreads and just hemorage $$$ slowly rather than go bust the way many probably do.heck,ya can even profit on 50% if you weight or scale you picks accurately,so goes to show money distribution/management is key

I started in this game with a 50 dollar teaser through a friend that was a runner, fuccker told me he was a player that time LOL, and lost way more than I have won from 2005 - 2012, every year having to stop for many reasons LMAO most reason is NO MORE MONEY, in debt, CASH ADVANCE got to be caught up, BUT I have always came back, either back betting big or back betting small to get a bank roll going again. 2013 was a weird year, first year I have made profit, betting about 1500 a bet on spread money line and second half in the NFL, had a strong run made about 100k USD for the season NO BULL SHIIT!! NBA I'm still trying to figure the SHIIT out, don't think I ever had a real profit, but haven't been too bad either. MLB I use a chase system but won't get into till NBA is over.

So over all I am 100% I'm down overall by at least 100-150k USD, but these last 2 years I think I been slowly making some change at this. There are some tricks to it, but LMAO tricks I still can't follow 100% of the time. Only if I could....

Few simple rules I think are a must....

    #1 got to have money.

#2 got to have a few books, GOOD ONES, ones that pay for your action, example, 1-2% juice on ur action kick back. Certain % back of ur lost for the week.

#3 money management, but this Im still having a hard time following.

#4 DO NOT CHASE, fucck another thing i have a problem with still.

    #5 Play more home teams.

#6 Do not always play Favs.

#7 Streak, ride them HIGH when u HOT, but don't kill ur self when u cold.

Many more I am sure but I don't feel like typing for years LOL.

Can anyone do this long term, WHY NOT!!?

I been on covers for a while, just made an account this year, going to post all my plays rather they stupid smart sharp or square and see how things can get, I really care less if people follow or fade, simply using covers forum to keep tack of my track record, LOL i tried to do it writing on a piece of paper but just can't keep up more than a few weeks.

Anyways BEST of LUCK to you!!! remember LUCK(y) is KEY to everything, and most times we have to put ourself in position to have LUCK sine upon us.

How discipline can help you to succeed in something that depends on random outcomes?!

You are saying DO NOT CHASE against a system that is designed to make you chase.

Bookmakers tell you "Gamble Responsibly" but their system is designed to make you not be responsible, so how do those 2 things coincide?!

This 'hobby' can become a very expensive one.
I agree some hobbies cost money which is fine.
But a guy above said this 'hobby' has cost him over $150k !!!!

I've never reached those figures with gambling, but I can tell you I won't be interested in a hobby that can some day make me lose $150k of dollars!!!

I haven't seen his thread here...
Question is if he gambles the money besides posting picks which you don't know about?

Can discipline help me to know whether the Pacers and Washington would score OVER or UNDER a total points of 183.5 ?

Could discipline help you to know that San Antonio would win by over 20 points?

What discipline has to do with any of this?

I have a family in America and they don't even know how to place sports bets, so no, it's not entire America who is like that. The fact is they aren't and I'm sure they aren't the only ones.

It sounds to me that it is more in your head. You are addicted and your world revolves around gambling ... that's not healthy if you ask me.

How is the system designed to make anyone chase ?

Anyone who chases has no clue what a good bet looks like. Why would you want to make any bet with your hard earned money if it wasn't a good solid bet, but only to ....try and get back a loss ?

You get back a loss when the next very solid bet comes along, which may be the next game or 10 games later.

Use to play poker online for side money..... lost for the first 2-3 years not knowing WTF i was doing..... then really started getting on my game.... read, studied even had a coach to train me..... started small built a roll... roll got bigger and bigger until it got big enough where i cashed out every 2 weeks.... win or lose.... it was big enough where i went on a 6 month losing/break even streak and it didn't effect me..... cant play online anymore so started sports betting....

Lost more than i can handle with a local.... he was cool put me on a payment plan.... primarily lost because i didnt follow any of the fundamentals i used to build a big azz bank roll through poker.... sports betting a lot tougher than poker to stay disciplined at..... I don't even now how much i lost.... but it was a lot i didnt want to know the final number cuz i didnt want to tilt LOL and try to get it back so I just let it go payed it off and forgot about it..... If I was to guess maybe 12-15K last year around playoff time in the span of 4 weeks.... betting like a newby feck and chasing and just being dumb..... it was a good learning experience though.

Now I'm doing much better.... discipline is the biggest key.

Can you define a "solid" bet?
Is betting on Oklahoma tonight $1000 to win $440 (moneyline) considered a "solid" bet?

Can you say betting on Chicago Bulls in Game 5 to win against Washington (otherwise they go home) - was that a "solid" bet?

How do you define a "solid" bet?
Perhaps betting $10,000 to win $10 is "solid" but that would be ridiculous to do that, wouldn't it?

I am up 100 units this year and 98% of that is from college basketball. I treat it like a business with a bank roll, 5-10% only each wager, I keep track in an excel spreadsheet of every pick, and i go back and research my picks and what went wrong and right etc. etc.

It can be done with discipline and not wanting to get rich quick. Get rich slowly and follow and plan and it is amazing what this can do for you.
