Hey Guys -

So I am making my way through the shows I have been told are great.  I just finished The Sopranos, and I am left with an empty void of something to watch.  It was suggested in the Sopranos thread, that the next one should be The Wire.

I am taking a foray into this show.  (I'm still watching Breaking Bad too, occasionally at night with the wife.)

So, about the Wire.  Is it as good as everyone says?  Rated up there with Sopranos?

Better than the Sopranos, last season was awful.  Same can be said of Breaking Bad, tons of episodes where you just laugh it was so silly.

i wouldn't rate it with the sopranos.  much better although i did really like the sopranos.

the wire, mad men and deadwood are probably the three best in recent history.  mad men and deadwood may not be for everyone but the wire should be.

What are "Mad Men" and "Deadwood" about, if you don't mind?  I'm always looking for more interesting and highly rated shows to watch.

mad men is about a advertising agency mostly set in the 60's.  it doesn't sound that exciting and is nothing like the wire, but it really is incredible how they bring that era to life and how good of a job they do with the acting, writing, story, etc.

deadwood is a western.  it's probably the best written show i've ever seen and also does a great job of incorporating real events into the story.  some great characters too.

the wire probably has the most action of the 3 but they are all very good for different reasons.

If you are at all offended by profanity do not watch Deadwood.
Its a great show but you do not want to have it on with kids around.

Omar is the best character.

"That was no attempted murder.  I shot the boy Mike-Mike in his hindparts.  Fixed him up so he couldn't sit right."   Hahahaha

What a great scene.

Get used to it.  Season 2 is the best.

It's not your typical show.  It puts the Sopranos to shame IMO and this is coming from an Italian from North Jersey.

Great scene. but don't ruin the show for the guy, Huge spoiler.

I never liked Cheese.  Love Method Man (not his music), but he kills me in this series.

Hi Guys,

I just finished THE WIRE.  Great show.  Terrific, honestly.

I've now watched:

The Wire
Sopranos
Breaking Bad

Are these any other series of this caliber that you all would recommend?

Thanks

Deadwood is as good as there is.  Only a few seasons though and this is coming from someone who hates Westerns.

Mad men was average imho.  I watched the entire first season and very disappointed.  Dont waste your time on it.

i would second 165's rec for deadwood.  to me, it's the best written show i've ever seen.

i disagree with him on mad men.  i'd put that up there with the wire.

looks like i already said that in an earlier post.

i don't have much new to offer but i'm watching a great show now called the last kingdom on bbc which is kind of like a lower budget, more realistic game of thrones type show.

Agreed with all this. Season 2 was amazing.

True Detective Season 1 next best show.

Then Sopranos every season.
