Emperor (2012) Matthew Fox, Tommy Lee Jones. As the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII, Gen. Fellers is tasked with deciding if Emperor Hirohito will be hanged as a war criminal. Influencing his ruling is his quest to find Aya, an exchange student he met years earlier in the U.S.
2.5 dog bones. It was interesting story especially the part about how much Fellers cared for the Japanese woman. Tommy Lee Jones which is usually very good was ok as General McCarthur. It's one of those movies that keeps you interested, but also one that seems could have been done much better.

The Next Three Days (2010) Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks.
Lara Brennan is arrested for murdering her boss with whom she had an argument. It seems she was seen leaving the scene of the crime and her fingerprints were on the murder weapon. Her husband, John would spend the next few years trying to get her released, but there's no evidence that negates the evidence against her. And when the strain of being separated from her family, especially her son, gets to her, John decides to break her out. So he does a lot of research to find a way.
2 dog bones. I was going to give it 1.5 but the crazy ending I guess bumped it up some. And this was up there with one of the craziest movies I have ever seen. There were times where I wanted to shut it off but I said I will ride this thing out. I was like Russell Crowe is in this? I think the movie was around 2 hours also. It has it's exciting moments so I guess that is what keeps you going.

I thought Emperor (2012) was interesting history BUT the "love story" was a distraction and pretty much "filler" ex when Gen. Fellers was talking to the girl's father, a Japanese General, about the difference between the Japanese and American soldier. I rated it

watched Copycat (1995) the other night with Sigourney Weaver, Holly Hunter, Harry Connick, Jr and William McNamara. excellent "psycho thriller" with oodles of suspense and some pretty good action esp at the end and has a number of very good "startle" scenes. both Connick and McNamara super scary as serial killers. plays again on Encore-Suspense channel again Monday feb 2nd @ 8:25am pacific time IF you want to record. I rate it of four

The Colony (2013) Laurence Fishburne, Bill Paxton.
Forced underground by the next ice age, a struggling outpost of survivors must fight to preserve humanity against a threat even more savage than nature.
1.5 dog bones. When I saw that Fishburne and Paxton were in it I was like this should be a good one. It was interesting at first but then I think it went downhill like a snowball. Another movie that had promise that could have been done much better. I guess if you are hardcore sci fi you might like it.

Riddle (2013) Val Kilmer, William Sadler, Diora Baird.
A college girl goes to a small town named Riddle, only to find her missing younger brother.
Once again I see the names Kilmer and Sadler I am thinking this should be good. The acting wasn't bad but it felt like a really cheap movie. Had some suspenseful moments and kept you wandering what the ending was going to be. And Diora Baird is definitely something to look at.
2 dog bones and that is being nice.

Grand Budapest Hotel FINALLY watched last night. OK movie with "dark comedy" mixed with "screwball" but do NOT think Oscar material. good cast BUT the kid that plays Zero steals the show. his Buster Keaton style "deadpan" throughout was excellent.

The Town (2010) Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall.
As he plans his next job, a longtime thief tries to balance his feelings for a bank manager connected to one of his earlier heists, as well as the FBI agent looking to bring him and his crew down.
3 dog bones. Solid Cobs vs Robbers action. Renner and Affleck are good and so is Hall. Chris Cooper plays Affleck's father. Has a few slow parts to build the story, but for the most part won't be bored watching this film.

The Town (2010) Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall. WELL acted movie with pretty much non-stop action. one of the late great Peter Postlethwaite's last movie rolls as the gangster Fergus "Fergie" Colm said to modeled after James "Whitey" Bulger. I rate it of four
No God, No Master (2012) played on Showtime-Showcase last week and thought it a pretty well acted depiction of the "Anarchist Crisis" back in 1919. also covers the Sacco and Vanzetti trial and the Wall Street bombing of September 1920 which was America's first ever major "terrorist attack". good movie IF you are interested in the history of that period. was an interesting mystery with some good action hopefully will be on a Showtime channel again soon. relatively short running time of 95 minutes. I rate it of four

Saw Lucy. I loved it.
Visually, it was very cool. They did some different things with it. Morgan Freeman as usual was great. There's a part where he questions if man is ready, and how she answers is so spot on it's ridiculous. What's cool too is that she answered in the exact way I thought she would.
I wished it had been a little longer because it did seem short, and of course because I liked it.
Good flick. Watch it.

Thunderheart (1992) Val Kilmer, Sam Shepard.
A young mixed-blood FBI agent is assigned to work with a cynical veteran investigator on a murder on a poverty-stricken Sioux reservation.
2.5 dog bones. I am like is this movie really over 20 years old. Val Kilmer has gained a few pounds since his movies back in the 80s and 90s. Big fan of Sam Shepard. Seems like every move he is in I like. This one isn't a half bad murder mystery. I have definitely seen worse.

Draft Day (2014) a number of NFL people threw rocks saying was NOT a "true depiction" of the draft process which is probably correct BUT it is a freeking movie drama so lighten up!!!. I thought it was pretty well acted by Kevin Costner as Browns GM Sonny Weaver, Jr and the rest of the cast esp Ellen Burstyn as Barbera Weaver, Sonny's mother, who was good "comic relief" in spots. found it entertaining and worth watching for sport fans at least once. plays again on Cinemax channels again Monday Feb 9th, Thursday Feb 12th, Sat Feb 14th and Sunday Feb 15th. rate it of four
Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight (2013) HBO legal drama about the 1971 Supreme Court case Clay vs United States where the court decided to rule in Ali's favor. has an outstanding cast as listed @ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Ali's_Greatest_Fight and was very well acted by all involved. the "intrigue" and maneuvering by court liberals vs conservatives is quite a drama and I found it fascinating. played on HBO last night and hopefully will repeat soon. I am a legal drama nut anyhow so I can watch this movie multiple times and NOT get tired of it. rate it of four

Watching Reeves acting is similar to watching a robot but I really did like John Wick. Maybe it's because he doesn't talk much which is a plus whenever he tries to act.
You're spot on LeRink with Grand Budapest Hotel.
The Town is a great movie.
Was forced to go to the movies and see Into The Woods. Was OK and very predictable. Not going to recommend it. At least I didn't feel like I got ripped off, is watchable.

Gotta disagree with you there . I actually paid to see it at the theater and wasn't disappointed . It wasn't AMAZING but it was definately was good enough . I thought Tom Hardy really opened his range and it's always great to see James Gandolfini. It wasn't slow even though it seemed like a movie that would be and had some really good suspense in it while having somewhat of an original story. Yeah it's the small town underground crime business type movie but I never got bored and actually liked everything about it

The town is the shiat and always will be . "I'll clip your nuts just like I clipped your daddy's ! John Ham was excellent and Blake lively is so fine . Damn she's hot . the only type movie that I would rate higher than the town would be HEAT. Al Pacino robert de Niro and Val Kilmer . If you havent seen it find a way too. One of my all time faves

definitely a top 5 crime drama IF not THE best ever. just the scene with Pacino and de Niro in the coffee shop should have gotten BOTH Oscar nominations
Pi (1998) no it is NOT that Ang Lee monstrosity about the kid and the tiger on a damn boat. this one a rather weird but interesting "film noir" black & white psycho thriller about a number theorist that both Wall Street people looking to cash in on his stock predictions and a group of Hasidic J ews trying to mathematically decipher the Torah are after. found it crazy but interesting and only runs 85 minutes. plays again on the Showtime-Beyond channel Saturday Feb 14th @ 12:10am pacific time. rate it of four
also as a "heads up", Turner Classic Movies is playing one of my all time favorite aviation themed movies, The Spirit of St Louis
(1957) with the great Jimmy Stewart as Charles Lindbergh. in my opionion it should have had numerous Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor (Stewart), Best Director (Billy Wilder) and Best Music Score (Franz Waxman). besides his history making NY to Paris solo flight, the movie goes deep into Lindbergh as a barn stormer and air mail pilot. it is a GREAT adventure with quite a bit of comedy too esp when he reports to Army Aviation Cadet training. plays on TCM Thursday Feb 12th @ 11:45am pacific time. obviously I rate it of four
