Movies you saw in February

Margin Call (2011) Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons = GREAT movie obviously based on the collapse of both Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns with Iron's character = Lehman chairman Richard (aka "D I c k") Fuld

Bloodwork (2002) Clint Eastwood, Jeff Daniels.  Clint is a retired FBI agent who undergoes a heart transplant.  He is pulled back into the game when a psycho killer starts going on a rampage again.  Despite the advice of his doctor, Clint won't give up until the killer is found.  Clint has always been one of my favorite actors.  I am sure he is for most.  This one though I found to be on the average scale.  It had its moments of suspense, then it had its moments of being ridiculous.  I would definitely put this on the lower end of all his movies.  But it's not terrible, just not great. 

The Caine Mutiny (1954) Bogey with many great movies BUT think his testimony as Captain Queeg at the court-martial just may be his greatest scene EVER. used to be available on YouTube BUT the baztards from Sony had it removed

worth recording just for the court-martial scenes, it plays on Sony Pictures channel again Tuesday Feb 25th @ 7:45 am and 10:00 am pacific time

and speaking of Bogey, Casablanca (1942) plays on Turner Classic Movies again Friday Feb 28th @ 8:00 pm eastern / 5:00 pm pacific

Hard Eight (1996) very well acted "neo-noir" gambling movie drama. the story has somewhat a "Damon Runyon" feel to it and I found it very entertaining. stars Philip Baker Hall as Sydney an old experienced gambler who takes John C. Reilly as John under his wing and teaches him the ropes. Gwyneth Paltrow plays Clementine, a cocktail watress and "Holly Golightly" part time hooker who is John's love interest and Samuel L. Jackson as Jimmy a hood who works casino security and a friend of John's. check out the scene with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in an early bit part as an obnoxious young craps player

overall I think most of Covers degenerates would enjoy this movie. the character of Sydney reminds me of the man that was my sports betting mentor back in the early 1980's in Houston when I was in my mid 30's and he was pushing 60. runs just over 100 minutes. it plays on Sundance channel again Monday March 3rd and Tuesday March 4th. best to record for watching later because Sundance is over-run with commercials   

Hard Eight is a great movie.  I can't believe that movie was 17 or 18 years ago.  Seems like the other day.

 

 

Prophecy (1979) Robert Foxworth, Talia Shire, Armand Assante, Richard Dysart.  A paper mill is dumping chemicals into rivers and ponds in the Maine countryside causing the wildlife to become mutated.  Foxworth and Shire are sent to investigate.  Dysart works for the Paper mill and Assante is a disgruntled indian who wants the Paper mill shut down.  I saw this way way back in the early 80s.  Hard to believe that this movie was 35 years ago.  Unreal.  It's an ok movie.  Has some scary parts and some confrontations. 

Oh gosh too many in this house. My husband lives on Spiderman, Jurassic Park, Lost World and the Green Lantern. We also have watched Big Momma’s House about a million times. I watched Ocean’s Eleven and Oceans Twelve as well. I also watched Bad Boys, Weekend at Bernies and my favorite 2012.
