Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005). watched this fantasy adventure the other night and thought it was REALLY good. it's kind of a Jumanji in outer space where playing a "space racing" game transports the two young brothers house into the cosmos. starts out rather slow but once the house is transported it's pretty much nonstop action with good suspense and excellent special effects AND has a crazy "plot twist" at the end.

IF you like fantasy adventure films I think you will enjoy this one. plays again on Starz channels Tuesday Feb 4th, Wednesday Feb 5th and Friday Feb 7th

    'After Earth'...Not good, not horrible.

But I'm a sucker for sci-fi, and I thought the look of the film was kinda sweet., the futuristic parts, not the jungle part.

Watched "Last Vegas" yesterday....  it was funny, Morgan Freeman's character was hilarious.  A very good way to kill 2 hours while avoiding all the Super Bowl pregame bs.

re: After Earth. you can be pretty sure a movie is going to STINK when it get an 11% on Rotten Tomatos AND is compared to Battlefield Earth as the WORST Sci-Fi movie EVER. I personally thought it was even WORSE. at least B-E had a PLOT and some decent ACTION in spots.

was also it is nominated in 6 categories for this years Golden Raspberry Awards. Worst Picture. Worst Actor - Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son). Worst Supporting Actor - Will Smith (maybe his worst part ever). Worst Director. Worst Screenplay AND special category Worst Screen Combo - "Jaden Smith and Will Smith on planet nepotism"

Great post LeRink.  Everything you said was .  I hope they sweep the Golden R. Awards.

I watched 30 minutes and had enough.  You can just tell it was an absolute joke 15 minutes in.  I didn't know it was his kid, terrible acting all the way around.

Drive and I'm not the biggest Ryan Gosling fan but this was a decent.  Not for everybody but the cast was good.

Tried watching 47 Ronin but gave up 30 minutes in.  Maybe it gets better but lets be honest Reeves can't act at all.

Don't watch Resident Evil Retribution.  My goodness that was one of the worst movies I've ever seen and quit after 45 minutes.  It was so bad I was laughing.

The House Of The End Times

    Spanish movie with subtitles .
It's a well made thriller with a pinch of horror, great story and the plot .  A slow start but it gets really good toward the ends.
    4 out of 5.

Basic (2003). pretty good action-mystery staring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Giovanni Ribisi, Harry Connick, Jr and a VERY tasty Connie Nielsen. VERY "twisted" plot mystery with some good action sequences and a real "surprise" ending I sure didn't see coming. under-rated by Rotten Tomatos @ only 21% proves to me you can NOT always go by their ratings. shows again on Starz Sunday Feb 9th, Monday Feb 10th and Friday Feb 14th. runs just under 100 minutes. I say   for mystery fans.

Thief (1981) James Caan, Tuesday Weld, James Belushi.  James Caan is a Thief who does his own work but is persuaded to do a couple of jobs for Robert Prosky.  Caan gets just a little ticked off when he gets stiffed on a score.  Tuesday Weld pretty girl back in the day.  I think I posted this in another month but watched it again today.  I like this movie so this explains why I watch it over and over.

some old mobster vampire movie called Innocent Blood popped on my tv while I was doing other things late night. I think i watched about 90% of the movie on mute and I could just tell how hilariously bad this film was without needing any sound. Almost every mob movie guy you could think of was in this cheesball film. Unreal how bad this movie had to have been, but it was like looking at the sun. i had to look up and see what was happening here and there and it cracked me up

42 (2013) reviewed a couple months ago after watching on PPV. this story of Jackie Robinson breaking the "color barrier" with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 is one of the BEST acted historical dramas I have seen in a long time. relatively unknown actor Chadwick Boseman is excellent as Jackie Robinson as is Nicole Beharie as his wife Rachel. Harrison Ford could have won awards for his portrayal of Dodgers owner Branch Rickey. IF you like baseball OR just modern American history, you will enjoy this movie runs Sunday Feb 9th and all the next week on HBO. definite

watched A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) to see IF it was really as stinky as people were saying and although it IS somewhat "cookie cutter" from other Bruce Willis Die Hard movies. it DOES have pretty much non-stop action, an excellent chase scene early on and "oodles of ordnance" with a pretty crazy "plot twist" at the end. I thought is was as good or better a plot than some of the other movie in the series. you like non-stop action and "stuff that goes boom" you will find it entertaining. plays on Cinemax channels again Monday Feb 10th and Saturday Feb 15th.

Basic was a movie that was a lot better than I thought it would be.  Kept me interested throughout.

Haven't seen 42 but would like to.

A good day to die hard would have been a better day if I had done something else.  I usually agree with all your movie reviews, but I was very disappointed in this one.  But it had a lot to live up to.

Nebraska (2013) Bruce Dern, Will Forte, Stacey Keach.

Dern is an old drunk that thinks he has hit it big when gets a letter telling him that he has won a million dollars in a sweepstakes entry.  He convinces his son to drive him from Billings Montana to Lincoln Nebraska to collect the winnings.  They meet various friends and family along the way and becomes an interesting story about who Dern's character was.  I thought it was a great movie.

I came across it the other night and I still regret giving up the 5 minutes that I did, it was the scene where the kid is running through the jungle away from the angry gorillas....  total trainwreck.

reviewed Stand Up Guys (2012) last month BUT thought it worth a mention again I enjoyed it that much. pretty much unknown and under-rated gangster "buddy comedy" with Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, and Alan Arkin. thought it was VERY funny in spots esp the chase scene with old geezer Arkin showing off his skills as a getaway driver. short movie @ 95 minutes with pretty much non stop action. playing again on EPIX 1 Tuesday Feb 11th

Hitchcock (2012) also previously reviewed but playing again on HBO Friday Feb 14th, Saturday Feb 15th and Monday Feb 17th. story of the making of making of Psycho with Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock, Helen Mirren as his wife Alma Reville, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh and James D'Arcy as Anthony Perkins. VERY well acted by all involved. D'Arcy esp really captures Perkins mannerisims.

Iron Man 3  (2013) started out a little slow BUT picked up in a hurry once the "stuff that goes boom" started happening. overall thought it was the BEST of the series so far. the villains were "hot" (literally) and was pretty cool to have Ben Kingsley as "The Mandarin". thought Ty Simpkins as "the kid' Harley Keener was an interesting character. I'm kind of wondering IF he will show up as a "Robin" type character to Tony Stark in future movies? overall had the constant action, excellent CGI and general mayhem expected from Iron Man with a couple of interesting "plot twists"

plays again on Starz Wednesday Febuary 12th, Thursday Feb 13th and Sunday Febuary 16th. definite    for action fans
