In honor of Friday the 13th I thought it was a good Idea for this post. I love horror films and everything to do with them. So lets see what your 3 favorite horror films are.

2. Arachnophobia

Not a genre I watch often but there was a time  long, long ago that "The Exorcist" was considered the greatest. Plus a good book.   The special affects might be lame by today's standards. I really don't. Not familiar with enough of those.

1. A Nightmare On Elm Street.   By far and away the most scared I've ever been during and after a movie.  I didn't sleep for weeks after seeing this the first time.

2. The Exorcist.  Another great one for raising the hair on the back of your neck.  There are also very interesting stories about the cast and crew during the production of the movie

3.   Tough call..... I actually really liked Insidious, the original 80's Fright Night, The early Friday The 13ths, Halloween, Jeepers Creepers was fun.

the original Alien (1979) is STILL the "most suspenseful" SciFi/Horror movie I have ever seen.

Realistic true stories like 'The Snowtown Murders' freak me out more than horror movies..I'm a grown man and I had to pause that  s h i t  a couple of times to gather myself. The fact that my gf was all like "meh" about it kind of freaked me out too. Crazy b i t c h.

'An American Crime' is another one that made me want to look away. Some of those scenes are f u c k i n g  brutal.

I thought I rented the Snowtown Murders. It was made in New Zealand. It was boring. There was happy rape. That was the only scary thing I remember. happy rape is a bit scary though.

Yeah the realistic true stories can be scary. I like Outbreak as well but its not really a horror film

The Exorcist & Night of the Living Dead definitely my top two.

Other ones kept popping in my head but I couldn't decide which one would be #3 so here is a list of honorable mentions...

Carrie, Pet Semetary, The Shining (Stephen King Trifecta), The Ring, Hostel.

Except for Hostel most are more creepy than slasher type films.

LeRink you think Alien is a horror?  One of the all time greats but not sure what is scary about the movie.

For me it starts with the Exorcist.  That might be the only movie ever  made where there isn't one joke or even slightly humorous moment.  The entire mood of is done perfect.  The Omen movies were very good.

are you kidding? the alien "xenomorph" has to be one of the scariest monsters in the history of film and the overall suspense AND "startle" scenes had people jumping out their seats when the Mrs and I first saw it in a theater in 1979.

1) IS the movie SO scary that it could change one's behavior?
2) Does the movie have a high likelihood of producing nightmares in people?
3) Does the movie startle you, make you anxious, get your heart pumping or just plain gross you out?

going thru their Top 50 list, I came across a VERY under-rated horror that I have seen before @ #22. the 2007 Stephen King movie 1408 (which is the number of a haunted New Your City hotel room) with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. had GREAT suspense and enough "blood and guts" to satisfy most horror fans

and btw, their list had the 1979 Alien @ #9

Forgot about the Omen. Very creepy music and nanny.
I once heard a comedian say whenever you put a little boy in a suit it is always creepy.

I remember watching The Exorcist with my dad when I was like 12...I almost crapped my pants. I knew it was gonna be darn*ed up when in the opening scene that little girl walks downstairs, stands there, and just pisses on the carpet.

Boston.com's Top 50 Scariest Movies of All Time lists the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers @ # 13 BUT for MY money the original 1956 film was WAY more scary probably because my mother and I watched it one night on TV back when I was a pre-teen and my father was away deployed with his Navy squadron. SCARED the HELL out of BOTH of us. definitely met ALL three of their "Scary Movie" definitions. was SCARED to DEATH to go to sleep!!!

The original Halloween..perfect soundtrack for the film..
  As far as recent movies, I would go with The Strangers..It just seemed like something that could really happen..

Saw Night of the Living Dead when I was about 15. Stopped going to those type of movies.
