… 99 pitches
You know why Dave. The franchise ace worth more than a no hitter. Kid needs to learn to be more efficient. He will get plenty more chances (assuming he can stay healthy).

They do it regardless. 99 pitches for a power pitcher through 7 is fine.
More arm troubles than ever and they pitch less. Many have said it is because they pitch less they get injuries.
A loss for Pitt here would be an awful loss for bettors.
I didn't touch the game but I would be pissed

Nolan Ryan would agree with you. Nor am I disagreeing. I am just saying that we all know why he was pulled. No manager nor a GM is going to be shit on for ruining their franchise ace like Kerry Wood, Mark Pryor, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Especially whenever the all-star break is coming and he won't start for a week or so other than probably 1 or 2 innings tops at all-star game. Should have left him in! He went to 110 or so pitches recently too.

I get that. But 99 pitches through 7 innings is very efficient. He could have thrown 25-30 more pitches. Or take him out after he allows the first hit, like they love to do and then lose the game. Ridiculous to me.
Baseball is supposed to be the sport that is the most into numbers. Yet, no numbers support what they do with pitchers today. It does not make them last longer, nor prevent injuries.
It certainly loses you more games than it wins.
The more chances you take going into your bullpen -- the more chance you will find someone they can hit and hit well.

No, they simply will not have a job long -- because they continually lose games they should win this way.

One last thing -- I doubt he gets many more chances. For this same reason -- out after 7 innings or 100 pitches, whichever comes first.
They should start counting no-hitters through 7 innings now.

U crack me up.. “needs to learn to be more efficient” say what? 99 thru 7 innings is good. Average of 14 pitches an inning. Agree with everyone else’s he should have gone out for the 8th..

Nutting called Cherrington. Cherrington had a message delivered to Sheldon in the dugout. Get him out in the 8th !!!! Sheldon thinking; "I'll be the fallguy. " Glad it worked out. Skenes is very, very impressive. Hype was real.

If you want to go 9 as a strike out pitcher with around 100 pitch count you can't have too many full count at bats. He has plenty of those. Sometimes its okay to pitch to contact and not try to strike everyone out. This is why it will be hard for him to get a PG/NH. I hope he does. But he has to have several under 10 pitch innings to have a complete game. That currently isn't him.

Skenes got it goin on right now! Best pitcher in MLB currently as a rookie and is still very young. Has a smoking hot girlfriend who can do god knows what in bed with all her gymnastics moves. Lol. And may even get the nod to start the all-star game next week!

Max Scherzer would have more than the 1 no hitter that I saw live if given a chance to pitch more late into a game.
Issues with the guys mentioned here should also include Steven Strasburg.
Hope that Skenes has a long career![]()

Yep. I =-went to the Home Run Derby and All-Star game that year the Nats won it all. Was fun to see Bryce Harper (even though I was always told by anyone who met him that he is a grade a asshole) win it in front of his home fans. My seat was right down the left field pole about 3 rows up. Great seat for watching the game but horrible seat if you want to catch a home run ball during the derby haha.
Been to 5 WS games, 2 AS and by far and away the AS experience is the best of all sports in my honest opinion. The Fan Fest (tremendous good time with the old timers in to share in the fun - you can just tell how much they all miss the game and as a result LOVE LOVE LOVE talking to fans all about it), the rising stars game, the celebrity softball game, the concerts, and of course HRD and ASG itself. Great times.
