Tough break losing the A's and Padres last night. Could've been a lot worse though as the Astros pulled out another victory and my last-minute bet on the Twins came through for me as well.
LEANS:
Chicago Cubs ML (+155): The Cubs have won 3 in a row, sweeping the Nationals. They will start Tom Gorzelanny, who is 1-1 in his last 3 starts while posting a 4.66 ERA. However, Gorzelanny has a 3.37 road ERA this season and a 2.79 ERA against the Reds this season. Gorzelanny will face off against Johnny Cueto, who has posted a 6.98 ERA over his last 3 starts and a 4.12 ERA in all home games this season. Cueto is a career 2-5 against the Cubs with a 4.17 ERA. The Cubs have been hitting well and pAjlaying well under their new interim manager, whereas the Reds seem like they've been finding ways to lose. I will make a small play on the Cubs here.
New York Yankees ML (-135) & Yankees/White Sox OVER 10.0 (-110): A.J. Burnett has not been stellar lately, going 0-2 in his last 3 starts while posting a 4.09 ERA. However, his opponent, Freddy Garcia, has been even worse. Garcia has gone 0-1 while posting a 9.64 ERA and a 1.857 WHIP over his last 3 starts. He has allowed 15 runs in 14 innings pitched. In his last 6 starts against the Yankees, Garcia has gone 0-3 with a 6.14 ERA. I think that this will be a very high scoring game, and that the Yankees will come out on top. Moderate play on the Yankees ML and small play on the Yankees/White SOX OVER 10.0.
Baltimore Orioles ML (+130): The Orioles have won 13 of 18 under Buck Showalter. They will start Brad Bergesen, who is 2-0 in his last 3 starts with a 3.80 ERA and a 1.219 WHIP. Bergesen will square off against Trevor Bell, who is 0-1 in his last 3 starts with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.734 WHIP. He has never started at home, and has never played the Orioles. The Angels have lost 7 of their last 10 games. I think the Orioles have the better pitcher on the mound here, and they should be able to pull out a win against the slumping Angels. Small play on the Orioles here.
Phillies/Padres OVER 6.0 (-110): Yes, Oswalt and Latos are both phenomenal pitchers. Yes, this game could certainly be a pitching duel. But a 6.0 is just too low, especially considering that both Philly and the Padres are more than capable of hitting the ball and scoring runs. I will take a small shot on the OVER here.
San Diego Padres ML (-130): Matt Latos is a stud, going 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA and a 0.895 WHIP over his last 3 starts. In all home games this season Latos has averaged a 2.95 ERA. Latos will face off against Roy Oswalt, who is pretty studly himself. However, Philadelphia has suffered from poor run support, averaging only 2.3 runs per game and a team .203 batting average (.278 OBP) over their last 7 games. The Padres have been on the opposite end of the spectrum, averaging 6.0 runs per game and a team .264 batting average with a fantastic .362 OBP over their last 7 games. I think that the Padres whould be able to pull out a win against the slumping Phillies here. Moderate play on the Padres here.
Lots of good matchups tomorrow. May add a couple, but hoping to have a good day.
