Twins trade C. Gomez for JJ Hardy

Johan Santana for JJ Hardy.   That seems fair to me. 

Either way, I like the deal.  Span now takes his rightful place in CF, Cuddyer moves to right, and Delmon Young makes a joke out of fielding in left. 

That does seem fair. But tell me...is it as fair as the Braves trading Tex, Neftali Feliz, Salty, Matt Harrison and Andrus just to get Adam LaRoche back?

With D.Young now becoming the full time starter in LF  I believe this will be his last real oppurtunity to show he deserves to be a major leaguer. I know this guy is still only 23 yeras old or so, but he just hasn't shown any signs at all to be a consistant ball player. This past year he had a good 2 week stretch of production right after Morneau got diagnosed with the ear infection, but before and after that just not much more than a .240 hitter. And is fielding like Hutch mentioned is adventerous at best.

With Hardy I wonder if he's gonna takeover the 2 spot in the lineup for Minny, or if not I wonder if the Twins will make another move for someone to take over the 2 spot. 

I have mixed feeling about this trade.  First, JJ has great pop for a middle infielder and could be a middle of the order hitter for MIN, so that part is good.  However, trading for JJ and his assorted injury history has me concerned.  Plus that makes my wonder what is going to happen to Orlando Cabrera?  OC plays the same position as JJ so I am not sure what is going to happen there.  My guess is one of two things:  (1) they move JJ to third and let Crede go or (2) let OC go and figure out third later on.  I am hoping for the former option.

Additionally, Gomez is a young five tool prospect that should probably have spent a couple years in the minors for seasoning but MIN had to rush him.  His speed has made a BIG different on several of MIN wins this year.  He scored the game winning run on both the one game playoff this year and the game at MIN against CWS that forced the one game playoff.  His speed will be missed and his bat will come around.

Finally, even though MIN did get more than just Gomez for Johan (Humber & Mulvey to name a couple) I just think MIN over played their hand and got screwed.  I said all along that they should trade with BOS and get Ellsbury and Masterson or Buchulz.  Terry Ryan should get some credit (Joe Nathan/Liriano trade for AJ) but also should get some critism too.

Just my thoughts on the state of MIN TWINS affairs.  BOL!

I will miss watching Gomez running fly balls down in center, but I surely won't miss his strikeouts and bone head base running.

I agree allbees if that happens I don't think it is probably the correct move either.  He really gelled this team together.  Despite all of the talent of Mauer and Morneau neither one of these guys are clubhouse leaders.  Who really is right now?  Denard Span?  Michael Cuddyier?  WHO?  A decade ago we had tons of leaders in Dougy, Hunter, Koskie, heck even Denny Hocking as a utility player was a good leader.  It is about time that Joe shows a little more leadership and maybe a little more emotion for once.  OC brought veteran leadership and I saw him rallying the troops more than once in the playoffs.

Im pretty sure Orlando is going to be FA and a type A FA.

So whoever decides to sign OC will lose a draft pick and the twins will receive a supplemental draft pick after the first round is completed.

So you have JJ Hardy who has struggled but has good upside and plays great defense with some pop and will get a draft pick for losing OC.

Good trade for the twins.
