A couple minutes later, someone throws up a thread entitled, “COVERS BLOODBATH ON THE NEW YORK YANKEES!” They may mix in some profanity, but let’s keep this PG-13.

The “Covers Bloodbath” theory stresses that when the majority of the forum is on a particular team, the opposing team will win the game.

When the “Covers Bloodbath” holds true, the originating poster will return and scream at the top of their lungs how people were idiotic to all play the same side of a particular game. If you’ve missed them, the posts are pretty classy. They usually are in all caps and they tend to use everyone’s favorite phrase, “I told you so.” It’s a sophisticated approach to posting for sure.

So, is this a wise strategy? Of course not.

I tracked the “Covers Bloodbath” type posts as best I could for the last 3 weeks or so, and of course, the “Covers Bloodbath” angle went 6-11.

I'm not going to lie. I was actually quite taken back. It seems like the majority of the time a side is dominantly played, the opposite wins, right? Not so fast. On the days someone screams out bloody murder against a dominant side, when it loses, the post fades away. When it wins, the original poster bumps their win to top of the forum the rest of the night.

The moral of the story: If you like a game, bet it.

If you end up a bloody mess, it’s not because the forum was dominantly on that side.
