For Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom.

Can't say I understand it from the Orioles' standpoint...but I never understand this team.

Looks like another "let's do something just so the folks think we're trying" type of move. it looks like the Orioles are going to be content to wait for all the pitching they thought they had last year to actually develop. Good luck with that. Lock on 5th place again.

Guthrie in COL is an awful fit for him I believe.

I have ben following the Rockies deals all winter long. I cannot figure out what drection they want to go in?

Can anyone shed light on what this team is trying to accomplish for 2012?

mikey i agree since july you trade jimenez then you sign cuddyer. And the Guthrie move i have no clue

Os wanted to avoid arbitration with him .. Guthrie wanted to get paid like a like a no. 1 starter by the Orioles when in reality he was coming off his second worst year and is a no. 3 starter for a contender.  Os filled the middle reliever void in Linstrom who had a very good year last year and I doubt Hammel's numbers will be far off from Guthrie's last year. 

On the flip side for the Rockies, I bet you Guthrie will pitch well in those NL West parks.

Seems like they are trading relatively equal pieces......I suppose Guthrie may have more "potential" which is probably how the O's scored a middle reliever out of the deal as well.

Seems like a relatively benign move without much point for either squad....

I guess I see no end game for this team. PACKER & mmac...good observations about Guthrie.

and by the way.....the Orioles have even less of a clue! Buck will be gone by July 1.

guys here are the bill james projections for guthrie. if you don't like them don't get mad at me i'm just the messenger

11-11 4.08 ERA

200 IP 58 BB 123 K

The Rockies have white,pomeranz and chatwood who will probably be innings-counted and pitch counted so they need somebody who will gobble up innings and if Guthrie gives them 200 innings i think the rockies would take it. A couple other stats about Guthrie 6 consecutive seasons of 175 or more IP

3 consecutive seasons of 200 or more IP

The Orioles thought it was Cole Hamels...

Guthrie is always in great shape..very competitive...a real bulldog..

DU4L.....he pitched much better than his record indicated....

Those clowns from the Rockies are.....

Guthrie, a 32 year old journeyman who has twice lead the majors in losses and sports a dazzling 4.19 career ERA, strikes out about 5 batters per 9 IP...sure, he's be a SMASHING SUCCESS, LITERALLY, in Colorado.

No way he wins 11, I can see maybe a 9-14 season, ERA looks about spot on, as with the K's.

Sparky - your takes on this cheap signing since he was setting rivera last year?  Os clearly are addressing their bullpen this year but weakening their starting rotation...I guess Duquette 'hopes' on winning by having his starters going 5-6 innings every game let the pen do the rest

He wasn't setting up Mo. He was just someone who would come in when a starter wouldn't go far to get to "the bridge". But he was incredible and I was hoping the Yankees would resign him. He pitched better than what you're paying so I can't complain about that deal at all.

Guthrie has had his moments (2nd half of 2010) but that's a fucking joke. I guess he's worth being paid as a #3 at the "MOST" but that's probably still too much. Maybe on a National League team he'll be good.

yeah, who knows if it was the pin stripes or not...but less than a million is a bargain for him
