Brilliant decision imo. You just said it...first walk. First walk of the entire postseason. 18 walks on the season? 72% first pitch strikes to opponents this season. Odds he throws a first pitch ball to the next batter is HIGHLY unlikely. So you have your cleanup hitter trying to get that cookie and tie the game, but it just wasn't successful.

Yankees' bullpen has had the best ERA in the postseason (maybe under the Phillies because all they do is throw complete games).

And IMO there are only a very few situations where you would ever want to swing at the first pitch.
