My A.L. East predictions....

I did this LY guys and i'm doing it again can't wait to get back to betting on MLB need to better than i did LY and i believe i will. Now this year i'm not picking a world champ as i feel every team in MLB has some flaws. It may sound dumb to say that thats how i look at it. So lets get to it. I will pick where they'll finish and their win total

5. Red Sox 75 wins

A lot of people have praised the Red Sox for flushing the turds that were Crawford,Gonzalez and Beckett down the toilet to L.A. and to be honest guysthey hsould've flushed more down the toilet in the winter. I'd have gotten rid of Pedroia,Ellsbury,Lackey,Aceves,Buchholz,Lester,Ortiz. I would've made the marlins fire sale look tame. Because you still have those poisonous players in that clubhouse.

Instead They go out and sign dempster who i said would get destroyed in the A.L. and he did. The Napoli signing was a joke, Victorino and Gomes give me a break. this offseason reeks of Larry Lucchino the major turd in Boston. IMO Red sox fans its time for John henry and company to sell the team because they don't acre about baseball anymore. They signed these guys to make it look good for NESN . I have more faith in the Astros and Cubs moving forward. The Red Sox once again will be a joke

4. Rays 79 wins

I've said many a dumb thing on covers and this could be the dumbest... The best thing for the Rays is to get off to a bad start so they can trade David price. We all know Price won't be in TB next year and long term as he got 10 million in arbitration this yr and that will only go up. It seems to me the Rays this offseason ahve brought in people of low character from Escobar to Fausto Hernandez or whatever is name is. I like the fact they basically fleeced KC in the James Shields deal getting Myers and company who we'll see sooner than later

I'd love to see this team get a new ballpark that they need but i'll call for a down year for the Rays but they'll be back

3. Yankees 83 wins

Boy are you going to need a program to know who is who on the yankees this year. A-Rod,Granderson,Teixieira,Jeter all out wow as this team gotten old like milk fast. Trying to get under that 189 million luxury tax. they acquired Vernon Wells the other day...yikes. This will most liekly be a rough year in the Bronx as this team is aging like milk by the day

2. Orioles 85 wins

I think the O's made the best offseason moves of any team. I know you're thinking packers they didn't make any... i know that's why they had the best offseason. I get MASN on dish network and they have a show called the mid atlantic sports report and during the winter meetings mel antonen interviewed Dan duquette and Duquette said this about making a move "The price of mediocre in baseball is getting ridiculous" Thats why i think they made the best moves this winter. Would Edwin jackson have helped the O's? Yeah but for 4 yrs and 52 million?Give me a break

Buck Showalter is imo the best manager in MLB bar none. I like the depth of pitching with Bundy and Gausman coming along. Not sure why O's fans are nervous about davis at 1B i think he'll be fine.Brian Roberts is healthy this spring thats almost like a free agent move can he play 130 games? remains to be seen

I wanted to pick them to win the East but they rubbed me raw with how they handled the Ravens situation but peter angelos and MLB being who they are it didn't suprise me. The Ravens should've gotten the Thursday home game The o's should've played a day game But Angelos and MLB have a case of L.P.S.

So i'll call for the O's to finish 2nd as Angelos is being his normal self ruining a great Baltimore moment

1. Blue Jays 92 wins

Basically by default i'll pick them to win the east. Traded for half the marlins in the offseason but i believe anthopolis struck at the right time for those guys. the NHL was in a lockout and the Blue Jays struck while the iron was hot. I read stories where a lot of Jays fans got Jays tickets for christmas and not Leafs tickets due to the fact we didn't have the NHL until January. Opening Day with R.A Dickey on the mound will be the biggest opening day in Jays history since 94

Dickey Johnson and Buehrle not a bad 1-2-3 to go with Morrow and if you get anything out of Romero it'll be a good day. i'm concerned about Bautistas wrist i don't like wrist injuries in hitters and shoulder injuries in pitchers. Reyes and Melky at the top of the order could be dangerous for A.L. pitchers So i'll pick the Jays to win the east basically by default

Final thoughts

What a weird time of year that the Red Sox and Yankees aren't picked 1st or 2nd but both teams have a lot of work to do to get their teams back to what we're used to. the Rays i think in the coming years could win a title with Getting Myers and those other pitchers plus factoring in what they'll get for Price in a trade. the o's bets pitchers are yet to reach the big leagues but as long as you have Showalter you ahve a chance and Toronto has a window to win this division

With The yankees falling apart the red sox being a joke etc it sets up for the Jays to win the East and they better This will be an interesting A.L. east

I won't laud or criticize any individual team as my numbers are not yet ready, but you have three winners pegged and the division as a whole going 18 games over 500 versus the AL Central, AL West, and NL in Interleague play. I think that may be a little high as the whole division is more balanced than powerful although, of course, ESPN and the Eastern press will make it out to be a lot of dominant teams that just can't get around each other. Dont understand how you can blame the Orioles or MLB for the Ravens game...

The NFL was at fault and then tried using rosh hashanah as an excuse. That was about as poor taste as it gets.

Heres the facts:

Baseball schedule had been done months prior before the NFL playoffs even began. On Wednesday both the Orioles (Cleveland) and White Sox (New York) play away games. Those are night games which means by the time the game ends and media, showers, packing team equipment, eating, going to airport, etc... They wont be getting into Baltimore well after 2-3 am. By the time they get home/go to hotels and get situated its nearing 4 am when you are finally going to sleep.

A noon game is out of question and a 2-3 oclock start is also really pushing things and a competitive disadvantage for both teams during the final stretch the season and during the playoff stretch run. Wieters would be 100% not available with a day game if he played the previous night and not to mention players being exhausted from travel, etc which puts a poor product and possible lazy play out on the field.

Not to mention that if the Orioles agreed to move the game (which they were open to) they would also have to get the White Sox, Selig, and the Players Association to sign off on moving the game time. MLB even thought about having Cleveland and New York change their game times to accommodate but that would mean 4 teams would have to OK the game time move.

Instead the NFL without having the schedule made yet made a media attack on the MLB to try using their bullying (Im better than you attitude) to get the public on their side and try to influence the MLB to crumble to the NFL's demands and change teh game time.

They claimed they didnt want to play on Wednesday instead (when no teams are in town) because of rosh hashanah... New Flash the NFL has played on rosh hashanah 3 times previously within the last 10 years. Rosh hashanah also lasts into thursday and most Jewish people would be at temple during the NFL start time. Also the NFL plays on Christmas so dont fall for their BS one second about caring for the sanctity of a Jewish Holiday.

The TV and ratings are better on Thursday night. They have played and opened the season on Wednesdays before but were trying to flex their muscle and inconvenience the MLB because they wanted the better TV slot.

I lost a ton of respect for Roger after how he tried playing things out in the media.

jpero i love MLB i sit in my house with scorecards and a dr.pepper and i call the MLB games i watch I love MLB but they aren't the NFL. And to be honest with you jpero i'm not a huge NFL guy anymore. But MLB isn't the NFL. The facts are its not hard to make it a day game for that day.

Here's what could've happened for that day jpero the o's could play at 1:05 that day The Ravens at 8:30 you could go to both games heck they could make it a day off for school kids. That day could've been a celebration of Baltimore sports. the Ravens winning a championship etc.

But i understand why Angelos didn't want to i mean if i looked at how the ravens run their team the fact they have competent ownership a winning product every year and a great front office and i'm Angelos who for 14 years was a joke who ran his team into the abyss i guess i'd want to play at 7:05 as well

You realize that thursday night 95% of baltimore will be watching the Ravens. There will be 10,000 in camden yards that night. Could've had 20,000 for a day game could've been a great Baltimore sports day but Angelos acts like the grinch yet again

The NFL could have easily gave the Ravens the Sunday night game. Instead Roger uses a Jewish Holiday as the reason.

That would be like if you had a house built on a piece of land and the Me (NFL) comes and says I want to build my house here tear it down immediately and I will pay for you to move your house and have it rebuilt in the ghetto.

Showalter was the biggest person against moving the game and even if Angelos agreed move the game it still would not have been moved.

The only way a Baseball game can have its time moved more than 30 minutes is to have both teams agree to move the game along with the Commish and the Player's association.

All 4 entitites would not have all said YES. A baseball game in September is more important than the 1st game of the year in football. The game in football wasnt even scheduled yet as the football season schedule hadnt even been put together yet.

The NFL was trying ot flex their muscles for the better TV spot and they were willing to fight it out even by putting hte Orioles in a competitive disadvantage during the playoff race.

PS....

1 PM game means the ball players get to the park at 9 AM at the latest

That means 4 hours of rest basically for hte players at the most.

jpero i'm not getting in a pissing contest with you. i've praised the O's when many on here have said they'll win 65-75 games etc. If angelos isn't involved fine but you know what its MLB being jealous of what the NFL has

NFL came out looking bad.

MLB did nothing wrong. Wednesday and Sunday night were available and more than reasonable options. NFL has opened their season before on Wednesday and the NFL champion opening on Thursday at home isnt even a tradition they started doing to about 10 years ago.

NFL was making a money grab and used their position as #1 sport to make MLB look bad to try forcing them into their demands.
