Trying to salvage the final game of the series will be Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo (7-5, 4.44 ERA), who has been remarkably inconsistent over his past seven starts, during which his season ERA has more than doubled from 2.15 to 4.44.
Luzardo has allowed four or more runs in five or fewer innings in four of those starts, but also a total of just three runs in 17 2/3 innings in the other three.
The 27-year-old has made five career starts against the Giants, going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA. He pitched in the Phillies' 6-4 win in their earlier three-game home series against San Francisco on April 15, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings but didn't get the win.
Aside from picking up another game on the Dodgers, who have lost five in a row, the Giants would like nothing better in the series finale than to get right-hander Justin Verlander (0-6, 4.84 ERA) his first win of the season.
Verlander has gone winless in his 14 starts this year, with the Giants losing 10 of those games, including the past four. He has gotten three or fewer runs of support in nine of his starts, including the past six.
The 42-year-old has a winning record in five lifetime starts against the Phillies, going 3-2 with a 3.34 ERA. He went head-to-head with Luzardo when the Giants visited Philadelphia in April, taking the loss when he allowed four runs, including a home run by J.T. Realmuto, in 5 2/3 innings.

Bubic and the Royals will look to complete their first home series sweep in more than two months and send the Pirates to an eighth consecutive road loss Wednesday night.
Bubic had a 5-3 record and 1.43 ERA through his first 12 starts of 2025 but is 2-3 with a 4.88 ERA since. However, he earned his second quality start in his past three outings after allowing three runs -- despite yielding seven hits and three walks -- over seven innings of Friday's 9-3 victory at Arizona.
This will be Bubic's first start against the Pirates since 2020. His is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two appearances against Pittsburgh.
Wednesday's scheduled Pirates starter, Bailey Falter (6-4, 3.69 ERA), has a 5.06 ERA in six outings since his most recent quality start at San Diego on May 31. Though Pittsburgh is 4-2 in those six starts, the left-hander heavily relied on his fastball but allowed four runs on three homers over 5 2/3 innings of Friday's 6-0 loss at Seattle.
Falter has never faced the Royals.
Despite his team's issues at the plate, Pittsburgh's Tommy Pham is batting .415 in his last 12 games and is 2-for-5 versus Bubic.

Veteran right-hander Adrian Houser (4-2, 1.60 ERA) will start for the White Sox on the heels of Friday's gem at Colorado, when he scattered four hits and two unearned runs in a season-high eight innings of a 3-2 victory.
Houser has been dominant since joining the White Sox in late May, especially lately, allowing no earned runs over 15 innings in consecutive victories against San Francisco and Colorado.
Houser is 0-2 with a 7.02 ERA in three career starts against Toronto. He'll oppose left-hander Eric Lauer (4-1, 2.65), who will face the White Sox for the first time.
Lauer has won two of his five starts since joining the rotation full time on June 11. In his most recent outing, a no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, he scattered two runs and three hits in a season-high six innings. The Blue Jays won 4-3 in 10 innings.
