Chris Bassitt (11-7, 4.10 ERA), who originally was slated for Sunday's series finale, will start Saturday for Toronto. Since getting a win over the Yankees on July 23, Bassitt is 0-3 with 4.84 ERA in his past seven outings.

Bassitt last pitched at Cincinnati on Monday, when he allowed two runs on five hits in six innings during a no-decision in Toronto's 5-4 loss. He is 5-1 with a 2.26 ERA in eight career appearances (all starts) against the Yankees.

Fellow right-hander Luis Gil (2-1, 3.68), who has allowed two runs or fewer in five of his six starts, will pitch on Saturday for the Yankees. Gil took a no-decision in a 3-2 loss to the host Chicago White Sox on Sunday. He allowed two runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings to match his longest outing this season.

Gil was recovering from a strained lat when the Yankees met Toronto earlier this season. He is 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA in three career appearances (all starts) against the Blue Jays.

The Dodgers have right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (11-8, 2.82 ERA) lined up as their starting pitcher for his first-ever matchup with the Orioles. He didn't receive a decision in last Sunday's 5-4 victory against Arizona, but he logged seven innings and matched his season-high total with 10 strikeouts without a walk.

This will be Yamamoto's sixth road assignment in his last seven starts. He's less than four innings away from reaching the 150-inning level for the season.

Left-hander Trevor Rogers (8-2, 1.39 ERA), who already has achieved a career-high win total, will head to the mound for the Orioles. He's looking for his fourth consecutive victory after going 4-1 with one no-decision in August.

In his last seven starts, Rogers has worked at least six innings and held opponents to one run or less in each of those outings. Despite him spending most of his career in the National League, this will mark only Rogers' second appearance vs. the Dodgers. He allowed two runs in five innings in a July 5, 2021, no-decision, a 5-4 loss to Miami.

Giolito (10-2, 3.38 ERA) is set to oppose Arizona right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (12-8, 5.33) as the Red Sox look to even the series. The Diamondbacks won 10-5 on Friday.

The Red Sox (78-64) dropped 4 1/2 games behind Toronto in the AL East and remained one-half game behind the New York Yankees in the first AL wild-card position.

Arizona (71-71) has won three in a row and seven of nine to climb to .500 for the first time since July 20. They are 5 1/2 games out of the third NL wild-card spot with 20 to play.

Giolito, who has pitched all but six of his 202 career games in the American League, has made one relief appearance against Arizona and will see Chase Field for the first time.

Pfaadt is tied with sixth others for fourth in the NL in wins, but opponents have found occasional bursts of success. Opponents are hitting .287 against him, the highest in the league, and his ERA is the fifth-highest.
