the problem the yanks have w/ all of their 3 young pitchers is how to build up the innings and still get through he season.they have a rule of not increasing there innings by more than 50 per year, joba only had 42 so how can you start this guy if you cap him at about 100 innings?if they keep him as the set-up man how are you going to stretch him out?if the goal is the rotation he should pitch long relief then move to the rotation mid season like they did w/ santana. if they try to stretch him out off of a set up role injury is a major concern.kennedy and hughes are scheduled to pitch no more than 150  and 170  innings this year...who picks up the work load?tough problems fort girardi but he did a nice job of handling a young staff in florida.if im not mistaken that was the root of the problem w/ management, they wanted to push the young arms to much and to fast and he didnt.

so every hard throwing youngster is destined to have an injury? Maybe the tigers shouldnt have been running him out there every single game. Yanks havnt done that with joba. Besides joba has a much easier delivery than zumaya does. Chamberlain is a stud bottom line.

How many young guys that come into the league and throw that hard this early don&#x27;t get injured? Just look at the last couple years: Joel Zumaya, Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, AJ Burnett, Rich Harden, Francisco Liriano.......the list goes on and on. I will guarentee this guy will spend time on the DL this year. And anyone who says that he won&#x27;t get overworked is an idiot. Like a poster said above they have Wang, Pettitte, maybe Pavano and Mussina and these 3 young kids. Now are you telling me the Yanks are gonna win with these old broken down SP&#x27;s?? Wang will be good but the other 3 have huge question marks and if the kids pitch well early and the old guys break down then the Yanks will have no other choice but to pitch these young kids and pitch em hard if they want to have any chance in hell of making the playoffs.

I think closer might be the best option for Joba to keep him healthy and effective.

Papelbon is a prime example. SP his whole baseball life and now one of, if not, the best young closers in the game.

Would yankee fans rather Joba get possible Tommy John surgery with the stress of having to pitch 150+ innings year in and out or would you rahter save his arm and put him in the closer role when Rivera leaves??

with schilling possibly out, boston will have to rely more on lester and bucholz, that to me is the same thing, and joba at least got more innings in last year than both of them did. I realize beckett is a stud, but so is wang in my opinion, and then they just have to trust dicek and wakefield which is not guarantee.

besides, who in here is saying the yanks are going to win the ws anyways this year. Im a huge yankee fan and ill admit in a way they are building for the next few years with that staff or they would have traded for johan. They sticking with those young guys to build a staff like they had from 96-01. Thats the best way to do it. And if that means a down 2008, than thats what happens.
