I never noticed until I read an article but Detroit has a LOT of bad contracts. That's insane. But the Yanks would be willing to take on bad contracts for somthing they really want.

And yea...Hughes or Joba wouldn't be traded this offseason unless there is some blockbuster deal with Miggy Cab, Granderson, Edwin Jackson, and some bad payrolls. My scouting report on Curtis Granderson:
He hit leadoff for us but is far from your prototypical leadoff guy, he does not have the onbase% you would like in a leadoff guy but he has the power to provide instant offense for any team. Most people would like him to hit 5th in our lineup next year which will raise his RBI's so you could be looking at a guy capable of 25-30 HR's with close to 100 RBI's. He is also good for 20+ SB's as well.

As for what part of the field he hits to:
In the past couple of seasons he has been starting to pull the ball a ton, during his 20-20-20-20 season it felt like he used to spread hits to all parts of the field but now he is turning into more of a pull hitter. I believe all of his HR's at home this year were to right field which is great news to Yanks fans. His is great at finding the gaps too which is why he was able to get over 20 triples a few seasons ago but don't expect him to do that at Yankee stadium because CoPa is a triples park whereas Yankee Stadium does not provide the same luxury.

Defense:
Most people already know how great his defense but just ask yourself, is there a CF'er asked to cover more ground than Curtis Granderson? We platoon our LF spot but the primary starter is Carlos Guillen who is terrible in terms of defense and in RF is Magglio Ordonez who has very little range. No guy is asked to do more than Granderson in my opinion.

Overall:
Granderson is a quality CF'er who would no doubt help the Yanks. He is a gamer who rarely misses games. He raises their defense and his hitting could use some work but it's not like the Yankees are hurting for offense so is his .260-.270 batting average really going to hurt you?

My best guess as to the type of season he could have with the Yankees:
.265 AVG, 30HR's, 90RBI's, 25SB's, and a Gold Glove caliber defense.

That's my unbiased scouting report on Granderson.

OK I am really getting sick of your childish act. What research did you do? What part of your research told you he was not a good CF'er?  How does he suck at CF, have you ever seen him play? He makes web gems on a nightly basis. You clearly did not do your research. The Tigers are not trying to get rid of him because he sucks at CF, the Tigers have over $70 million wrapped up in bad contracts next season and need to unload some of it. Their best way of unloading it is forcing someone to take a bad contract of ours (Robertson, Willis, Bonderman) in order to get Granderson.

For example, a few years ago the Tigers made a trade at the winter meetings. In order for us to get Miguel Cabrera we HAD to take Dontrelle Willis as well. That is how you unload a bad contract and now Dombrowski is trying to do something similar with the Yankees or the Cubs.

Please give me an a fully detailed honest assessment of Curtis Granderson, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Curtis Granderson was not impressive in 2009, thats all.  I don't think the Yankees need Curtis.

No love for Curtis Granderson in Detroit.  Curtis is not New York Yankees material, Curtis is a second class Center Fielder & Omar Minaya should be signing Curtis to the Mets in a few days.

I'm just trying to compare him to Damon. If they get him, I'm almost certain Damon is gone. With that said...he's better defensively and he'll be around longer. The problem is...Damon's swing really fits Yankee Stadium and he's a productive hitter as well. But...it's not up to me so whatever happens happens. I won't be upset either way.

Unwanted? What are you talking about? Granderson is probably the most popular Tiger, him or Inge at least. No way does management want to get rid of him but they're put into a position where they're forced to get rid of him. The Tigers don't make the money your Yankees do so money IS a primary concern for us.

I think the Yanks would be better off with Curtis Granderson over Johnny Damon. Granderson provides better defense and Damon has kind of maxed out his hitting potential whereas Granderson still has plenty of time to refine his hitting some.

-I forgot one thing on my scouting report, Granderson is a pie thrower. Don't expect him to be cutting too many guys down at the plate. Neither could Damon though so I guess it's not a downgrade in that area.

Where the hell would he bat??
na I will sign Damon for 1 more year because he is already proven himself and hold next off for Carl Crawford next year when he will be a free agent.

Ok pal, I'm just gloating over the WS Yankees win.  I had to suffer for 9 year.  I'm the typical spoiled Yankees fan who want to win a WS every year.

Yeah that's why he is not considered your prototypical leadoff hitter. He is more than likely going to hit 5th in the Tigers lineup next season if they find a suitable replacement at leadoff. I would assume Granderson would hit in the 7th or 8th spot of the Yankees lineup. I agree with your last point though, if you feel very confident in landing Carl Crawford after next season then maybe you hold off on the trade. The Yankees might not have to give up much to get Granderson though, the Tigers are desperate to shed payroll so they might accept an offer below market value.

Imagine if the Yanks got both Crawford and Granderson, that's adding something like 75 stolen bases a year. Pretty scary stuff.

Lets see...if the Yanks get Granderson, and don't sign Damon...who bats 2nd? I'm a fan of putting Cano in the 2 hole and Granderson in the 5-6 spot.

 

Now if they happen to get Granderson AND Crawford...this is what their lineup would look like(probably) in 2011.

That "Vacant" spot would be for whoever their DH or Catcher is (If Posada starts to get into that DH role more often by then).

 

But this is just wishful thinking...I'll let them take their course and see what happens. ...............I just love how they win a Championship, and are already looking to see how they can improve their weak spots.

 

 

One more question for you...Granderson is a good clubhouse guy right? I think I heard that somewhere, just making sure...After this season...I find that to be VERY important that nobody comes in who could hurt the team's chemistry.

Granderson is a great clubhouse guy. You never hear him speak out against coaches,players, management etc. Leyland has made plenty of dumb decisions, Dombrowski has buried this team in debt to the point where they can't afford to go out and improve the team and Granderson never said a word about it.

Granderson is always out doing charity events he even has his own charity, The Grand Kids Foundation. He's a great ambassador for the sport.

I don't see any trade of Granderson unless the Tigers receive exactly what they are looking to obtain. The Yankees seem to lack the pieces that the Tigers would be interested in acquiring.

There are other candidates Detroit could use as salary dumps without getting screwed in a potential deal.

Carlos Guillen, MCab, Jackson.... Even Bonderman and Robertson could be moved since they are expiring contracts. Thing is they wont fetch much, if anything so Granderson would probably be packaged with one of those 2 players in a deal to provide more salary relief and make up for not getting equal market value.
