Huge outing for Ben Brown today to stop the bleeding from the pitching side of things, cause their problems there are bigger than the hitting believe it or not.

I just do not see anything in the series except for maybe an OVER in the next game or two. Maybe PIT in the 1st5 as well.

I think the CUBs have the better pitcher going. But they could not score on Miodzinzki last month.
At some point the CUBs bats have to wake back up. They are still one of best hitting teams. But quickly falling down that list lately.

The real problem with the Cubs is(and will be) the starting pitching.

Tailon is a shell of his former self, I don't know what is wrong with him.
If/when Boyd comes back, will the old vet provide quality starts? It'd be safe to assume that he comes back mediocre. Who knows.
Ben Brown has 3 starts under his belt. Bullpen guy converted to starter. He has a high ceiling, good stuff. How fast can he adjust to pitching 5, 6, or 7 innings though? Cause the Cubs needs someone to eat innings.
I'm guessing that the Cubs will call up some guys in the near future to make spot starts. We'll see.
But, if and when the Cubs bats wake up, heading into the hot summer months, this team will be a good OVER bet I presume.
Only if they wake up hitting. It's terribly bad right now. They're trying different lineups, batters are pressing, no one is seeing the ball well.
The Cubs are fighting nearly 2 weeks of embarrassment here. Ben Brown did his part, the bats need an injection.
0-2 risp, 7 left on base, Bergman caught stealing to end the 5th inning. 2 errors, non of them hurt luckily.
Yeesh it's painful to watch. Like someone slowly drowning in quick sand, and the branch is 3 inches too far to grab.

Wicks vs Ashcraft
Jordan Wicks hasn't pitched in the Majors in 2026 yet. Yup, the call ups are starting already. For AAA Iowa he's pitched 26.1 innings in 7 starts. 4.44 era with a 1.557 whip.
In 2025 he pitched 14.1 innings for the Cubs, all out of the pen. 6.28 era, 1.744 whip.
