Koch may not be shutting people out but he only allows anywhere from 1 to 3 runs per outing. His last outing to Washington he did allow 3 runs, but he pitched 8 innings. So, this is a pitching mismatch that favors Arizona to win the rubber game. Woodrich gets blasted every time out. Some will argue that Woodrich successfully got throught the Colorado lineup the first time throught last time. Yes, then he got blasted. But, remember he was called up not due to success, but because of necessity. Prior to Zach Davies going down there was no intent on bringing up Woodrich. In fact Woodrich was demoted to the minor leagues earlier in the season due to consistent bad performance. So, there should be nothing that would indicate that Woodrich has a good day today, nothing. The Brewer bullpen isn't as mighty either. Jeremy Jeffress has a neck issue or something and wasn't available to pitch yesterday, and he'll be out today as well. On top of that Counsell, made a terrible call in pitching Taylor Williams who never pitched in high stress situations before to pitch the 8th instead of Matt Albers. Counsell's reason was that he was saving Albers for more innings. Bad logic with the game on the line in the 8th, that inning take prominence over anything else. So what if Albers gets a reduction in innings pitched. So, one guy that has started to hit a bit better is Hernan Perez, but he's out today because of a wrist injury. Then Ryan Braun is taking up space on the bench because he is day to day but won't play because of a back injury. Counsell should have him on the DL and someone else up from the minors that's ready to hit. Counsell is left with pinch hitters like Bandy who is only hitting about .170 or so. Depth is a huge problem for the Brewers today. Home field and some juicy pitches should make Arizona look good today.
