A question for you Yankee fans

Why is Joba Chamberlain still pitching for the Yankees?

I just don’t get it. The Yankees have the highest payroll in baseball and the best record in baseball so why do they keep bringing in a pitcher with that is 1-4 with a 5.77 ERA and has more blown saves than saves? I mean I could understand if they invested a shit load of money in him but he is making less than $500,000 a season.

Come on. I know there are plenty of yankee fans that post here.

I'm not a Yankee fan, but let me take a crack at it (even though I sense that your post is meant to be inflammatory and not inquisitive).

- He's only 24.

- They're in first place and not at any real risk of falling out of playoff position at this point.

- He's proven that he can get major league hitters out and his stuff is above average, so I guess they figure he can figure his troubles out in the majors.

- Who is the better option?  Gaudin?  Park? 

Because it's simple. The guy is young, and he still has TALENT. The Yankees have the best record in baseball and can afford to give the guy a chance to figure it out. I know 99% of those on here don't think he will amount to anything...

But in 3 years he will be a top closer.

And saying that he has more saves than saves is silly.  He doesn't get any save opps (and you know this), but he gets chances to blow them.  Saves are a dumb stat to begin with and managers constantly mismanage bullpens because of it, but that's another conversation.

Chamberlain is 24???? Holy shit, yeah he does have some potential. Just realized Phil Hughes is only like 22 too. It was the same way with Robinson Cano - who honestly struggled both in the field and with the bat his first year or 2, but it's the high risk/high reward with the Yanks. That's how Steinbrenner did things, and how they will continue to do things 

Until any other team wins 27 World Series Championships - everyone else needs to fix their thought process of how they acquire talent, because apparently the Yankees system works

Your anger is understandable. If most people challenged someone to a contest, ran their mouth, and then went 16-24 and were down over 9 units they probably wouldn’t want it brought up either.

Of course, most people wouldn’t be so stupid as to do that in the first place.
