I watched entire fight. Thought it was close but Maynard narrowly won.. I'm happy judges saw the same way. I'm not a fan of Nate Diaz at all.
I don't see Maynard lasting long at all vs BJ Penn. Penn would finish this much faster than Diego fight (Diego fight was truely over much sooner than the 4th round). His striking has improved since TUF, but no where near Penn's. Wrestling? If Maynard didn't want to bring the fight to the ground with Diaz, no way he will be willing to take down Penn (needless to say, he wouldn't be able to take down Penn), and Penn would be able to bring kicks to the fight. In the fight last night, there were very few and weak kicks from Diaz... I think we all know what a kick from Penn can do.
At this point, who at 155 does stand a chance vs Penn? Frankie Edgar, Gray Maynard, Tyson Griffin? I know the odds do not neccessarily mean how 'competitive' a fight will be, but I see Penn being a -500 or more favorite for the rest of the year at 155 until he tries to step up to 170 again. I do not want to see a GSP vs Penn III...
With Gomi coming into the UFC, I've heard rumors that Gomi's first fight will be against Florian. If Gomi beats Florian (I see Florian winning that fight .. but thats for another thread), I can see UFC bumping up Gomi for a title shot. But still .. Penn would dominate.
As you might guessed, I have always and will always be a big fan of BJ Penn. But realistically, who at 155 can you see challenging BJ? Last night's fight I didn't see a #1 contender...

Really? TKO? come on now..
Out of Maynard's 9 fights.... 1 KO ..
Maynard has gone to a decision 7 times in those 9 fights.. last 2 fights were both split decision .. Title fight won't go all 5.
I know Diaz had a big reach advantage, but with Maynard trying to strike for all 3 full rounds, Diaz wasn't in any serious trouble in the fight on yesterday. Maynard's striking isn't any where near Penn's.
If this fight happens in Maynard's next fight or after a tune up, I really don't see any way Maynard can beat Penn.
Penn by TKO or any sub he wants.

TKO and KO are not the same thing.
How many People have those "Lethal" hands of Maynard Knocked out? The Only guy I remember him Knocking out was himself. Oh yeah and Joe Veres.

i think florian probably gives bj the best fight at 155...and we saw what happened there.
maybe tyson griffin or edgar fight give a challenge, but if grey doesn't get a hell of a lot better fast, he will get eaten by penn.
i took grey against diaz and got lucky - maynard looked horrible! i hate when wrestlers (maynard, sherk) try to out box guys...fish out of water.
