That showing was as close to Bader vs Johson for the welterweight division you can get.

Something that messes with peoples games is their ego. Hendricks wanted to show he had the striking to compete with Wonderboy, so did Rosholt. May have been to get some buzz around them by knocking out strikers. Why Rosholt didnt land take downs is beyond me. He may be trying to avoid guillitone?

Could see it was a problem when Hendricks striking coach said that Hendricks had better striking than Wonderboy. If Hendricks played it safe by taking down Wonder boy (people will know Hendricks only by his grappling) that would destroy his spot. Hendricks needed to outstrike the striker.

Stephen Thompson will be the champ end of this year. Only person to fear is Demian Maia. His BJJ is as lethal as Wonderboy's striking.

Completely agree that Hendricks wanted to match Thompson on striking and that didn't work out.  The reach and technical striking advantage on Thompson's side was ridiculous.  Hendricks didn't look one bit like a wrestler.  His straight up stance is ridiculous.  As far as Rosholt/Roy, I don't think Rosholt's wrestling is that much better than Roy's.  I imagine Rosholt would get tossed around by say, Cormier.  It's not like Jared is a truly elite wrestler.

I saw it the same way.. Thompson put hendricks rhythm out with his range and kicks.

was expecting more take down attempts by the big rigg, however wonderboy kept him at distance picking off shots.

Both heavy weights showed alot of respect for each others strength and played it safe.. thought nelson would have taken more of a risk to get the k.o.

Not getting his take downs effected him, that was his one thing he could rely on if his strikes arent landing. Hendricks is the type of fighter that wins if the other fighter lacks skills or movement. Not to say he isnt a good fighter. He is Artem Lobov with good wrestling and 5 years experience hitting pads.

Hendricks would have fought better stand up if Stephen started weak. Under pressure like this with someone that is so dangerous he was stiff, looking for an opening, his advances were intercepted. Theres a difference of someone who strikes at a dangerous level (understands striking at its core) vs someone that gets average by training to hit pads.

Cormier would manhandle Rosholt I would imagine. Something to note. Rosholt + Hendricks had the same stiffeness, or to go as far to say scared stiff. Bader had it too. All 3 opponents dangerous strikers (AJ, Roy, Stephen) all had no way of beating them. If Hendricks was to do what Rosholt did by running away from exchanges he would lose decision. So only option is to fight head on, all of them was hesitant to fight either like Rosholt or to brawl like Lawler. They were in no mans land doing neither and had the scent of defeat on them.

The way they fought was to win by decision, they had to fight to win and hope for decision.

Wonderboy was what I expected Sage to become 10 years from now a GSP - Wonderboy mix. Conor will not try to go for the 170 pound belt. I guarantee it. Wonderboy would crack Conor after he takes the belt off Lawler. That chin of his is like stone though.

Lawler I can see doing what Hendricks didnt do. He bites his mouth guard and moves forward. Wonderboy wipes the division clean w/ the   possibility of demian submitting him.

Don't agree with too much of your analysis on any of these fights. Not attacking you just giving my opinion here.

To compare what Bader did to what Hendricks did is crazy. Bader dove in for a sloppy, terrible takedown and got pounded right away. Hendricks missed a close takedown and then got picked apart on his feet because of the distance and skill of Wonderboy who is probably the best striker at 170lbs.

Also, I think anyone would agree that Cormier would manhandle Rosholt. Cormier is an olympic wrestler who got 4th place and mainly only lost to the best American folkstyle wrestler of all time and has only lost to the most gifted MMA athlete of all time.

    Sure, criticism is good.

Bader was scared stiff that matchup. He had nothing to give Johnson. That fight would of ended the same way 10 times (25 minutes in the cage), same with Hendricks. Hendricks felt uncomfortable because his grappling was not effective like he was vs lawler or matt brown. Didnt close the distance, and kept getting intercepted and circled around if he did.

Bader and Hendricks outclassed on the feet and on the mat (TD defence vs their offence). Both got picked apart matter of minutes.

I had Rosholt possibly win one round. That running he does cost him rounds for sure.
